This little beauty sold at yesterdays Saturday Market. A couple from Texas who visit Las Cruces every 6 months came to the Market looking specifically for me, and she was wearing a piece she bought from me back in March. Today I learned that you can dissolve silver nitrate crystals in water and pour it all over the glass batch. The furnace is tuned much better and is getting to really nice glass cooking temps. We will even be able to do a "bubble squeeze" - there the temp is lowered to below working temp which helps the bubbles rise up to the surface and makes nice clean glass. Then we will raise it back up to 2150 tomorrow morning for tube pulling :)

Very excited. Others in the studio are also getting excited as word is getting around about the color furnace. I hope some of my pro glassblower friends can take a dip out of the color furnace and use it after me to make fun colors.
The studio manager wants to experiment with decoloring glass to enhance recycling with it. Being able to melt the custom glasses really opens up possibilities.
We are all excited to see what the Silver, Tin, Zinc glass does.

I filled the doodle I made the other day after baking it out overnight again. This time I wound some new coils from the scrap wire bin for my induction heater to wirelessly heat the electrodes while they were in the kiln and under vacuum.
The electrodes are coated with an emmission coating the acts as a "getter" and helps to collect residual impurities left in the tube. My thin scrap wire coils got all hot and smokey as the current ran though them from my induction heater - but they also got the electrodes hot and activated the coating.
It was looking pretty airy when I tipped it off from the kiln after adding argon. Leaving it on a 5kv, 120ma transformer on a flasher overnight cleaned it right up- when I came in the next morning, it was ready for mercury. The old school folk methods still work :)
Now it's shining bright- the other tubes mostly overpowering my dark brown.
