  1. I pulled tubes with my buddy Sean today and picked up the submit Ideas here box. Very excited to have these tubes. I tried to use all my color bar... which wasnt a bunch, Ali helped a little- so now I should get some color bars to replace what I used.

I want more of the (white looking) Iris Amber- its got silver in it and reflects light off of it one way (whitish) but filters light another- amber
I also want more dark amber tubes- cant seem to get enough of those... and cream brown- I used two bars of Ali's today. We pulled an interesting copper ruby that is now out of production too... It might be possible to melt a pot of copper ruby.

Of course more ruby tubes are always nice... but the gold colors are expensive at about $50-$100 per 30 foot pulls (more gold=more pink)

Excited to phosphor coat these tubes.... I wanna make a xenon Iris, gold and copper ruby one.

Excited to go through the Idea box.

  6. Following a chilly overnighter in a cosy cabin in Ohakune, we had breakfast before heading up to Turoa to watch other people play in the snow. After a coffee back in town, we travelled along SH4, shadowing the Mangawhero River, south to W(h)anganui.

After lunch, we had a good wander around and enjoyed just some of the art-focused stuff based in the city. These included:

the boring gallery (all lowercase) - a local art collective showcase space.

Quartz, Museum of Studio Ceramics - an unparalleled collection of ceramic works collated and curated by studio owner and renowned NZ potter Rick Rudd, who kindly showed us around and answered our questions.

NZ Glassworks - not only as gallery but a working glassworks where you can watch the artist in residence and interns blowing their latest pieces.

Katie Brown - longtime NZ glassblower with her own gallery shocasing her piece and those of artists in other mediums.

An honorable mention has to go to Frosty Moons - a lovely place selling some very tasty desserts and ice creams. We're now looking forward to Taco Tuesday at Porridge Watson later.

*UPDATE*: Fatties Street Food's*** ***Taco Tuesday 'pop-up' at the lovely and quirky Porridge Watson was great and great value - best tacos we have had in some time washed down with a local brew or two.

  9. We had a "Glown Away Soiree" last night at Glass School. Organized by a bunch of us teachers assistants. Lots of neon on frames around the fire pit- a bar, snacks and music.
I forgot to get photos of the neon frames and the nice glow they casted everywhere, but I DID get photos of my overserve prevention light- a pair of articulating- to scale diamond shears that I made two or so years ago here.

We are Soiree ing responsibly by setting the high voltage diamond shears in a puddle of water :). That bartender better see those tequila shot pours.

I keep making these party lights here thinking they will break on their first use- but most of them actually end up sticking around campus forever. Someone even dropped these on the concrete ground last night and they STILL didn't break!
