How did 1600s Dutch households keep their fire embers from going out at night? With a curfew.
Yes, it's a pun. Curfews were metal covers that kept fire embers smouldering overnight, to be revived for the next day's cooking and heating. The word curfew comes from the French for fire cover (couvre feu).
The brass one pictured here is among the earliest to survive, made in Holland but now in London's V&A. It's embossed with an image of Saint Lawrence.
This is dark humour, since Lawrence was roasted alive in the third century—punishment for perhaps the first Christian protest. The early church's refusal to worship Roman gods led to persecution. Lawrence was ordered to surrender the church's treasures to authorities. He turned up with the sick, marginalized, poor, elderly, and widows, boldly proclaiming: “These are the true treasures of the church.” For this insolence, he was martyred (killed).

Yamaha has perfectionists who live and work by the principle of Kysen. They will tune and tweak their sublime work so it becomes even more sublime. Yamaha specialists gurus and experts do this in all fields that Yamaha is in.

As you see I've included photographs of an 8 channel Yamaha portable mixing system, designed for micro live performance, with a build in two channel class D amplifier, and a set of dual driver speakers / monitors, which I use when I need balanced physical PA speaker output, that my sets of headphones cannot produce, in the studio, simply because the physics in combination with the acoustics prohibits such output.
The system is tuned to the space, thus is small.
It delivers a balanced flat sound up to 90dB of SPL in the this closed real world setting, if needed (though that is rare)
This level has been measured (and is regularly done). I do this to make sure I don't overload my ears with dB thus damaging my precious engineering organsYamaha in my personal and Pro live

Plastic narrow shank #tuba mouthpieces for sale in the UK? Smaller sized is better. It's to replace a trombone #mouthpiece because my lips demand extra room. This is for a #serpent and the tuba mouthpiece I'm using plays great but is too heavy for the lead pipe which is just held in place by a bit of cork.
