First time I’m cutting and assembling glass!
And I enjoyed SO much, that ever since I hear my subconscious telling me to quit my job and do this all day long for the next twenty years or so.

'Let Us Satisfy'
#Cyanotype on tissue paper. Approx 3.5 x 1.8mA 'stained glass window' made for #York Library, using source material from an #archive collection of #StainedGlass makers in York.
I made full-size digital collages (first image), which I used as negatives to print the cyanotypes.
I LOVE ARCHIVES
If you have an archive project I can work on, do let me know!
This stayed up 6 months longer than planned as it proved very popular with library visitors.

"#BruceDavid’s magnum opus is a #psychedelic #lithograph depicting practically the entire #Torah. Over eight months, #David filled it with a plethora of hidden symbols: If you look closely, you can see #Joshua blowing a #shofar, which hugs the #Israeliflag. Squint even more and you’ll notice Joshua’s face is the flared end of an even bigger shofar that encompasses the #TenCommandments, a shofar made up of dozens of small people, seven of whom hold flames as if making a human #menorah.
To understand every hidden image in just this one #painting would take more words than I have space for. David gave me the “short version” of the piece’s story on Zoom — it still took six minutes.
Although David has now spent decades making #Jewish #art — #prints, #mosaics, #stainedglass and #metalworks — and exhibiting it across the country, it wasn’t what he had anticipated doing with his life."

Cathedral Candlelight in Cork
A beautiful brass candle stand in St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork. When Helios was on display in the Cathedral, I visited there with Blarney Photography Club and took the opportunity to photograph other parts of the cathedral’s artistic heritage.
The inscription above reads, “Ní mar is toil liomsa, ach mar is toil leatsa”, which roughly translates as, “Not as I will, but as you will”. A reference to the Biblical quote, “Not my will, but thy will be done”.
St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, completed in 1879, is the Church of Ireland cathedral of Cork and is renowned for its French Gothic Revival architecture and exceptional craftsmanship. The cathedral contains numerous examples of fine metalwork, woodcarving, and stained glass, much of it created by Irish artisans.

The Glorious Banners of St. Giles, Edinburgh
The interior of St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh on a bright, sunny day in July, 2018. I visited again recently but these are from my first visit.
I visited the cathedral with the aim to photograph it, but I forgot to bring my tripod! It was sitting in my suitcase in my hotel room. I did my best, using tables and benches and the floor instead to hold my camera steady.

Spotted this stained glass window in St Mark's Church, Millfield in Sunderland on a Heritage Open Day visit.
Portraying England's patron St George attempting to fight off a fearsome-looking dragon.
Although St George never actually set foot in England, his reputation for virtue and holiness had spread far and wide across Europe.
St George's feast day, the 23rd April, began to be celebrated in England from the 9th century onwards and following the 'Battle of Agincourt' in 1415, St George's Day became one of the most important feast days in the English calendar.
