Jax, look, I know we don't get along, but what you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

So now I'm digging into some of the commentary and controversy over TADC, and it's very much a "this media wasn't made for you" situation wrt to cis viewers, who didn't at all get the signaling that is very clear to trans people and are taking that as an objective failure of the ending.
Like, naw fam you're just not being centered here and you're going to have to sit back and listen about a different kind of experience.

Not gonna comment on the rest of the finale but I liked how the show ended with them forming a support network for the abstracted people & helping them heal. When we talk about suicide & mental illness we focus on disease, but we ignore the isolation and ostracization that allows disease to fester.
The abstraction = suicide angle also makes ppl getting harmed by abstracted folk a good reflection of how we're often seen as toxic & hazardous to interact with.

That broke me.
As a trans woman I just relate and understand her so much. If I was forced to come out to my mum when I wasn't ready after being mentally tortured by her and then ridiculed when I told her I was trans I would of reacted the same and ended up being like her or worse.
I loved The Amazing Digital Circus. It was a hilarious comedy that became so much more and very personal as I described above.

I've been seeing these overly huge walls of text in regards to TADC and I don't think it's all that deep, I think young people identify with it simply because it's literally just a show about playing friendslop during Covid.
You've got a bunch of Gen-Z coded characters having a collective existential crisis, over the prospect that they might be trapped forever in a liminal space, with only each other and a unstable library of fast food digital entertainment.
And you can keep running that same treadmill over and over if you really wanted to. What's the Backrooms about? It's that feeling when Covid.
That's what all of popular media is just gonna be now. Covid and Trump, Covid and Trump. Just like how it all was Bush and 9/11, Bush and 9/11.

So I keep hearing that abstraction is suicide, but I just dont see it. I always thought it was A) the scan file becoming irrevocably corrupt. & B) a metaphor for a full mental break.
Which makes hearing it called suicide feel weird. Being that suicide has a certain layer or agency. So it feels like ppl are saying they chose to have a mental break? which doesnt feel right. :blobshrug:
