Gestern einige Stunden Photos organisieren und bearbeiten unter #Linux probiert und mich gefreut, was geht: #gThumb ist nice, wenn auch etwas buggy. #XNView geht deutlich besser. #Darktable ist unübersichtlich, komplex, kann offenbar viel, öffnet aber keinen leichten Zugang. #Lightroom funktioniert im Browser durchaus brauchbar.
Es ist mühsam, aber motivierend. Irgendwann werde ich ohne #Windows auskommen, bestimmt! Aber ohne Lightroom? 🙈 -

Здравствуйте, я загружаю много (как посмотреть) фото (и не только) в Wikimedia Commons . Вместе с Википедией, это важный сервис, особый: некоммерческий, тоже живет на донаты, без рекламы и платных аккаунтов, всё содержимое в свободных лицензиях. Базовый путь загрузки - через веб клиент, который сложный, это не в Фейсбук перетянуть фото. Экосистема, инфраструктура, комьюнити огромно, есть десяток инструментов загрузки . И внезапно, за вечер, я сделал, по моему мнению, один из лучших инструментов, о котором мечтал годами. Получилось так быстро потому что это скрипт для gThumb, который использует официальное SDK Pywikibot на Питоне, и библиотека для чтения/записи IPTC тегов - где указываются категории, категории это важно - Коммонс это не помойка, при загрузке и после ребята стараются систематизировать артефакты, у каждого файла может быть много категорий.

February was a bumper month for Linux app updates, bringing new releases of Mozilla Firefox, LibreOffice, ONLYOFFICE and more — as well as a slew of smaller app updates that didn’t get a full-length article on this blog. Rather than skip over them entirely I thought I’d resurrect my Linux Release Roundup thread1 to provide a monthly (perhaps twice-monthly, if there’s a lot) run-through of some of them. After all, for those of us on fixed-release Linux distribution like Ubuntu may find one of these smaller updates fixes a flaw or fleshes out a feature to make it worth upgrading :sys_more_orange:

@_DigitalWriter_ Schön, dass Du auch neben #DigiKam und #gThumb auch #XNview angeführt hast. Letzteres wirkt einerseits optisch zwar ziemlich altbacken - es erinnert mich ein bißchen an 2007, als ich noch Windows (mit-)genutzt hatte -, andererseits ist es aber ein praktisches Tool, wenn man "schnell mal eben" z.B. IPTC-Einträge einiger weniger Bilder editieren möchte. Da wirkt digiKam manchmal etwas arg mächtig.
Aber Du zeigst auch dem Linux-unbeleckten Suchenden schön auf, was sich mit Linux heute alles schnell und einfach und doch elegant bewerkstelligen lässt. 👍👍

After being annoyed for many years by #gthumb's slow #performance when opening an image for viewing from a large directory, I was finally able to record some #profiling data that identifies where gthumb does the excess work, thanks to @hergertme's fancy #sysprof 45 with frame pointers in #Fedora 39: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gthumb/-/issues/259#note_1923955

Found something that instantly made me revert from the #Flatpak version of #gthumb to the Fedora-provided RPM: opening an image file via Nautilus, gthumb is unable to see the other media files present in the same folder, so you can't flip thru or do batch operations. I recall the same limitation being present in Amberol.
I didn't see a ticket about this sort of pitfall in Flatpak's issues tracker. Should it be filed there, or is it already possible and an issue ought to be filed on apps?

So, jetzt haben wir* doch noch meinen Rechner platt und das neue #Ubuntu (LTS 22) drauf gemacht. Manches ifinde ich richtig gut, wieder besser als beim 20er-LTS.
Aber na ja, beim Installieren meiner altvertrauten Programme installiere, stelle ich fest, das manches verschlimmbessert wurde.
So arbeite ich gern mit #gThumb, das es jetzt wohl nur noch in Darktheme gibt. Davon bekomme ich Augenkrebs, sorry, ich sehe da immer ein Geflimmer.
Weiß da jemand Hilfe?

AVIF and HEIF images can now be opened and edited in gThumb, the open source photo manager for Linux desktops. The gThumb 3.12 release ships with the ability to load .avif, .heif (including Apple’s .heic) and .jxl images, as well as the ability to save images in the .avif format. What is AVIF and HEIF? They’re both new image file formats that offer a smaller file size than traditional JPEG images but with negligible loss in quality.
