I’m always willing to try something I’ve never heard of if it has a NUMERO GROUP label on it.
More often than not, it tends to be a very satisfying experience.

    That is the case here.

A collaborative project between members of Duster and Dirty Art Club, Crusher is a record that’s very melancholic, restrained and sleepy. A super dream-like, hazy kind of #Slowcore with warped and warbly edges.

A wonderful late-night #ambient dream-pop album, or if you just wanna chill SEVERELY. It’s so damn comforting.

A pleasant surprise that I’m really enjoying, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it makes my favorite albums of the year list.
If you like this kind of music AT ALL, you’ll REALLY like it.
    It’s really great.

[this post should not be considered an endorsement of a particular organisation or their approach]
“[The Google WeatherNext AI team] are showing how the WeatherNext AI model from Google DeepMind and Google Research has achieved state-of-the-art accuracy in predicting a cyclone's track, intensity, and wind structure. On average, the WeatherNext Cyclones model gives forecasters an extra day’s worth of predictive accuracy- delivering an advance equivalent to roughly a decade of historical meteorological progress 🌀
Here is how WeatherNext is transforming cyclone forecasting:
    • Gaining an Extra Day of Advanced Warning: WN 3-day forecasts are as good as what prior models were able to provide for 2-day forecasts, giving critical time for emergency response.
    • Overcoming Traditional Trade-offs: WN bridges the gap between massive global atmospheric currents (which steer a cyclone's path) and fine-grained thermodynamic processes around its core (which drive its intensity) into a single AI model.
    • Unprecedented Ensemble Scale: Using Functional Generative Networks (FGNs), WN now generates 1,000-member ensembles in less than a minute on a TPU to capture rare, consequential tail-risks like sudden rapid intensification – which means forecasters can see a broader range of possible scenarios.
    • Real-World Impact: During the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, the WN model helped the National Hurricane Center (NHC) make a historic forecast for Hurricane Melissa by predicting rapid intensification and landfall five days in advance.
[The] teams are open sourcing the operationalized models (WeatherNext Cyclones and WeatherNext 2), alongside a compact version (WeatherNext 2-mini) that can run on a single TPU in a free public Colab notebook – all with a goal of empowering local organizations worldwide.
Weather affects everyone. By combining advanced AI with the real-world expertise of human forecasters, we can build a collaborative ecosystem that saves lives and helps communities adapt to a changing climate…”

  3. Hydroclimate Volatility On A Warming Earth

    --
newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/flo <-- shared UCLA article, “Floods, Droughts, Then Fires: Hydroclimate Whiplash Is Speeding Up Globally “
    --
    H/T @Daniel Swain
“Hydroclimate volatility refers to sudden, large and/or frequent transitions between very dry and very wet conditions. In this Review, we examine how hydroclimate volatility is anticipated to evolve with anthropogenic warming. Using a metric of ‘hydroclimate whiplash’ based on the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index, global-averaged subseasonal (3-month) and interannual (12-month) whiplash have increased by 31–66% and 8–31%, respectively, since the mid-twentieth century. Further increases are anticipated with ongoing warming, including subseasonal increases of 113% and interannual increases of 52% over land areas with 3 °C of warming; these changes are largest at high latitudes and from northern Africa eastward into South Asia. Extensive evidence links these increases primarily to thermodynamics, namely the rising water-vapour-holding capacity and potential evaporative demand of the atmosphere. Increases in hydroclimate volatility will amplify hazards associated with rapid swings between wet and dry states (including flash floods, wildfires, landslides and disease outbreaks), and could accelerate a water management shift towards co-management of drought and flood risks. A clearer understanding of plausible future trajectories of hydroclimate volatility requires expanded focus on the response of atmospheric circulation to regional and global forcings, as well as land–ocean–atmosphere feedbacks, using large ensemble climate model simulations, storm-resolving high-resolution models and emerging machine learning methods…

  4. CF Premiere: Jëan Fixx – Pink Noise [INNFLEXIA]

Jëan Fixx, the musical alias of multidisciplinary artist Félix Fernández, has developed a language that moves across techno, electro, synth-wave, and EBM, shaping an identity where industrial textures and atmospheric depth coexist in constant tension. His trajectory spans labels such as iptamenosdiscos, Deep Different, Ruidodefondo, and Disctrl, alongside airplay across European and Latin American platforms. With INNFLEXIA, he extends his practice into a dedicated space for experimentation and the dissemination of contemporary electronic music.

With HINDSIGHT, his vision takes on a particularly focused form. Across 54 minutes, the album unfolds as an active reading of rave memory, deconstructing and reorganizing the codes that have shaped his trajectory. Techno, electro, EBM, electroclash, and synthpop emerge as layered elements within a narrative where the past remains dynamic—reactivated through a contemporary lens infused with psychedelic nuance and sustained emotional intensity.

The album’s structure feels like a process of accumulation. Acid textures, progressive arrangements, and a distinctive vocal approach create a space where the dancefloor becomes a site of introspection. Energy extends beyond physical drive, shifting toward a dimension where club experience gains symbolic weight. An implicit reflection emerges on rave culture as a space for identity formation, resistance, and emotional expansion.

Within this framework, “Pink Noise” introduces a particularly vivid shift. The track channels the hedonistic, nocturnal energy of early-2000s electroclash, articulated through sharp synth lines and an attitude that balances irony and seduction. References to artists like Tiga, DJ Hell, Miss Kittin, and The Hacker are filtered through a contemporary perspective, avoiding replication in favor of reinterpretation.

    https://soundcloud.com/clubfuriess/cfp-jean-fixx-pink-noise-innflexia

Its texture is defined by precision. Synths cut cleanly through the mix, while the groove sustains a steady, instinctive movement. A playful quality runs through the track, unfolding with lightness while retaining depth. Vocals act as another point of friction, adding character and reinforcing a sense of electrified nocturnality.

In this balance between memory and renewal, “Pink Noise” captures one of the album’s most direct gestures. It functions as an entry point into its sonic universe, where form and intent align with clarity. The result lingers—a frequency that remains active even after the track fades.

HINDSIGHT ultimately settles as a reconstruction where the dancefloor becomes a living archive. Nostalgia is set in motion rather than preserved, reorganizing the past through the present and leaving space for further evolution within its own system.

  9. A Walk in Night Fog

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Yesterday morning I woke and looked out of a window and saw fog. For some, the reaction is "oh zut alors" as we think that we're in for several weeks of being under the clouds, with the mountains as a weekend escape from a sun deprived time spent in fog.

    An Indirect Walk

I took it as an opportunity. I could have walked from A to B last night. Instead I walked my usual walk. Along the way I looked for interesting photo opportunities. The fog was thick, and you could see water droplets floating in the air near lights.

With some apartments, with especially brilliant lights there was an interesting line to demarcate where the light's rays could reach, and where it was out of range.

    The Cone of Light

On the walk home I played with the flashlight and clouds. I noticed that I could indicate where I was, with a cone of light pointing down to where I was. I could also see clearly where the light no longer lit the droplets of water in suspension in the air.

Now, back to the apartments. In some cases, where there was just one or two windows, the limit of lit and unlit fog was clear, and it made for an interesting sight.

Two apartment windows projecting light onto a tree

    Apartments Lighting Water Droplets

In one case the light from two apartment windows lit the sky behind a tree so well that it was nicely silhouetted against the night sky. There were several such opportunities.

Another person noticed how these same light rays were visible where light from a street lamp split the light rays, highlighting what remained in shade, and what was lit. If I had taken the time I could have got a similar photo on numerous occasions.

    And Finally

Whilst it is easy to see fog in the morning, and regret that it is foggy, fog is a good opportunity to get original photos. It is as good as when we see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, except that the opportunity to take photos lasts for an entire day and into the night. As I write this we have dull lighting today, great for portraits, but flat and uninteresting for landscape photos.
