Looking at Android devices, you get content filters and even, presumably disable algorithms and ads. This is great! ...

Except the YouTube kid search results are shocking, and YouTube Music is just not accessible. I'll ignore the fact that the UIs are dumbed down, bigger fonts; generally useless.

Meanwhile Albo: “Hold my beer”.

Two layers of incompatible overreactions, and as a parent I cannot use any of these tools to adequately protect my children without censoring the entirety of the world around them.

DreamWidth is free. I've never been censored there. I plan to post future book recommendations there. It goes way back; it's a fork of the old LiveJournal code, and it's run by two former LiveJournal staffers. It has a lot more features than Mastodon, including text formatting and groups.

I hope Mastodon finds a way out of its censorship addiction. But until it does, there's no point in posting here.

WTF?! I’m going to reread Jane Eyre—why is this book banned? Did someone catch a random kissing scene in a movie and panic, thinking, “My kid ain’t reading that smut!” I can’t think of anything in the book that justifies a ban.

Psiphon is a software company that helps internet users living under oppressive regimes such as Iran, Myanmar, Russia, and China evade online censorship.

I think a lot of people are new to AI and initially are a little derogatory, labelling everything AI does as ‘slop’.
