New DNA findings suggest Christopher Columbus's family may be from Spain, not Italy. This is a big change from what people have believed for many years.

Does anyone have any suggestions for sources of photography from Spain in the 1940s and 1950s?
I'm especially interested in images showing signs from those decades and, more specifically, hand-painted signs, so suspect images from bigger cities will be most fruitful.
Thanks in advance for any leads, and please boost to reach others that may be able to help.

… the oldest son of the King of England! When King Henry III dies, my husband will be king and I will be queen. But I’m young, so I’m going to enjoy life and enjoy the wedding feast! The prince seems kind enough and so I’m not afraid of this new life.
It will be hard when we have to go and live in England next year. Even my name will change. They won’t call me Princesa Leonor over there but Eleanor, Queen Eleanor of Castile. -

The Forgotten Stance: A Brief History of Spanish Non-Belligerence in World War Two
Owen James explores how Spain narrowly avoided World War II, debunking the myth of Franco’s "astute caution". The article highlights the failed Hendaye meeting, where excessive imperial demands clashed with Hitler’s goals, and the Blue Division’s anti-communist crusade, proving Spanish non-belligerence was a result of necessity, not design. -

#OnThisDay, 19 Nov 1933, women across Spain voted for the first time.
Franco was in power from 1939, after the Spanish Civil War. Under his dictatorship only the heads of households could vote, radically reducing women's rights until after his death in 1975.

In the late afternoon of Monday 26 April 1937, the small Basque town of Guernica was destroyed by sustained bombing attacks by Hitler’s Condor Legion and Mussolini’s Aviazzione Legionaria. The choice of projectiles was aimed to cause the greatest possible number of civilian casualties. The atrocity was imortalised in the famous painting by Pablo Picasso.

" The Guide for the Perplexed" sits as yet unread on my bookshelf. I'll get round to it at some point, I hope.
Alberto Manguel's "Maimonides: Faith in Reason" uses this Cordoban statue for an illustration and notes it was erected in 1964.
I'd like to know more about the decision to commemorate the great Jewish philosopher in the city of his birth. At the time of the Civil War, Francoist rhetoric had an ugly antisemitic streak. What had changed by the sixties? Was it a purely local initiative?

The Spanish overcame the #IncaEmpire in 1 day by capturing the emperor Atahualpa.
Fake news! It was a process that took decades of battles.
E.g. in April 1536, Manco Inca escaped from the Spanish, rescued his principal wife, Curi Ocllo, & fled #Cusco to plan a #rebellion.
Exactly 3 years later, in April 1539, Gonzalo Pizarro set out to capture the rebels.
Would Manco & Curi survive his pursuit?

#OTD 1485, Isabella, Queen of Castile, wife of Ferdinand, King of Aragon bore a daughter named Catalina, or Katharine, perhaps in remembrance of Isabella’s English grandmother, Katherine of Lancaster. From an early age Katharine’s destiny was to be Queen of England she was betrothed in 1489 Treaty of Medina del Campo to Arthur Prince of Wales, the marriage to take place when they were 15. http://bit.ly/1yA0bzI #histodons #katharineofaragon #queens #historyofroyalwomen #tudor #spanishhistory
