  1. Balonx Sistema: The Face Behind the PhaaS Affecting Mexican Banking

A sophisticated Phishing-as-a-Service platform called Balonx Sistema, operated from Mexico, targets over 20 financial institutions through tiered subscriptions. The platform employs real-time WebSocket session hijacking to defeat multi-factor authentication, distributing a Spyroid-based Android RAT via fake security alerts. Since October 2025, over 1,100 victims' credentials have been harvested. The operation includes CallFlow, an AI-driven vishing module using GPT-4o-mini, ElevenLabs synthetic voice, and OpenAI Whisper for automated telephone fraud, eliminating human operators. The platform uses continuous domain rotation across 350+ domains since 2019, maintains centralized PostgreSQL infrastructure, and is openly promoted through Facebook groups. The operator, identified as 'balonx', manages a sophisticated criminal enterprise generating approximately $99,000 USD through subscription-based access priced between 3,000-6,000 MXN weekly.

  2. ⚡The #US 🇺🇸 has deported nearly 2,300 #Mexican 🇲🇽 nationals to #Guatemala 🇬🇹 in 2026 as part of a policy shift intended to pressure the #Mexican 🇲🇽 government. President Arévalo stated that #Guatemala 🇬🇹 serves as a transit point for these individuals before they are returned to #Mexico 🇲🇽, with costs covered by either the #US 🇺🇸 or #Mexico 🇲🇽. #Honduras 🇭🇳 is also participating in the reception of deported individuals. 4. Of all the weirdo decisions taken in the #telecoms industry, I can't fathom the logic behind #Telcel blocking access to #VoWifi from #Starlink terminals.

In rural #Mexico there has been a massive uptake of starlink, such that in areas where there is a lack of direct mobile coverage from #2G, #3G, or #LTE towers, the most likely alternative is going to be a starlink.

So why then deny access to service for those customers connected in this way? After all, VoWifi calls are charged at the same rates as those routed over the mobile RAN (even as they don't actually use any resources on it)

Usually, #MNOs (#Mobile #Network #Operators) are blocking access to their #IMS over IP from outside the home country - in order, we presume to not have customers avoid the industry's outlandish "#roaming" charges. (there are some notable exceptions)

But in the case of Starlink, (as far as I can make out) - all the terminals in a national territory are routed via the ground station in that country. - I sort of understood this may be a requirement for operation?

So why not add starlink's #Mexican IPs to a whitelist for telcels?

Of course... we could all have been doing something else since long ago; #VoIP is a thing, VoWifi is just glorified VoIP, just as IMS is a glorified #SIP server.

But then there would not be so much #control...
