From my #bookshelf: Arguably #Microsoft's best product ever, the Encarta World English Dictionary printed in 1999.

It is still one of my favourite printed dictionaries for the English #language. Tons of illustrations, really good definitions that can be understood by non-native speakers and an innovative approach that combines traditional dictionary definitions with very concise encyclopedic entries.

Can you imagine today's #ai-infested Microsoft creating an educational tool like this?

I can't, but I find it interesting that back then someone in the company decided that investing money in customers' education was worthwhile and they secured approval from the higher-ups.

They probably left the company long ago, but their legacy still lives on. More of this, please!

Why we can't remember things from before the age of five or so has been something I speculate about. As an author, I think that as we mature and our facility with language improves to the point that we think symbolically with words (e.g. we talk to ourselves), we simply lose track of our ad hoc likely purely visual indexing of our oldest memories. This article speculates our indexing fades as we age out of infancy, but for those ages where we are learning mavens does that make sense? Interesting article, regardless. Worth a read.
