ARSE. To hang an arse; to hang back, to be afraid to advance. He would lend his a-e and sh-te through his ribs; a saying of any one who lends his money inconsiderately. He would lose his a-e if it was loose; said of a careless person. A-e about; turn round.

This week on #HoPWaG we look at Pierre Bayle, and ask whether his Dictionary is supposed to lead the reader towards skepticism or a more profound Christian faith. (Maybe both?)

The Cambridge Dictionary has added 6,000 words this year, including slang terms like skibidi and delulu. @AssociatedPress talked to Colin McIntosh, lexical program manager, about how his team decides what makes the cut. At the second link, find a quiz to see how well you know Gen Alpha slang.

Book digitization projects like Google Books and Archive.org have been a boon to us translators. They offer free, easy access to reference material from past centuries, such as this 100-year-old French-English chemistry dictionary that I used constantly earlier this year when translating sample chapters of a book on the history of science.

#Florida #banned #dictionaries. And #encyclopedias and #thesauruses.
This is not a #TheOnion headline. It’s reality.
Because kids have access to things like the definition of sex, description of sex related topics, and terms surrounding sex.
What the actual fuck.
