  1. RE: mastodon.social/@tzimmer_histo

It is important not to dismiss the fact that roughly one third of Americans still support Trump (and that evidently many are prepared to do so even with violence, physical, economic, and more).

It is equally important not to dismiss that the group that supports him, and the actions and goals of this fascist regime, are a minority, and they know they’re a minority.

  7. Deserves to be widely read/shared! #Pride #Pluralism #Pluralistic #Society

"A stable pluralistic society depends less on universal agreement than on the ability of citizens to coexist without experiencing every visible difference as existential hostility. That requires a kind of restraint. Not every symbol must be decoded. Not every celebration must be morally totalized. Not every public expression requires an immediate declaration of allegiance or opposition.

"What we really owe one another in public life is something both smaller and harder: clarity about our own convictions combined with enough confidence to allow others to inhabit shared civic space without constant fear and escalation.

  11. Outside the Default Path: A Pagan Reading of the Federal “Anti-Christian Bias” Report

A reflective Pagan perspective on the federal government’s anti-Christian bias report, exploring how religious freedom can feel very different for Americans outside the cultural mainstream. Through personal experience, civic observation, and reflections on pluralism, this essay examines the difference between protecting faith and centering one faith above others.

  13. "What human culture added was interpretation, prestige and normativity: it turned sentience into personhood, and personhood into something sacred. The crucial catalyst was the evolution of language, which, about 200,000 years ago, gave human beings new ways to describe inner life, attribute it to others, and elevate it into a shared ideal."
