It really depends on the meaning you give to *Sovereignty*. In the truest sense of the word Australian #sovereignty is analogous to *autonomy* and *self-determination* in terms of its #Statehood. It is fully exercised as long as we’re not invaded and completely subsumed under foreign **rules** and **social systems** — as in: our govt(s) and our institutions (Constitutions) no longer exist to serve us.Half-functional, or even non-functional military assets (peacetime or in action, as they tend to do anyway) do not diminish sovereignty in their own rights, though general military capability attrition followed by military defeat will.
Sovereignty cannot mean buying equipment that we fully control. Because for one, there’s no such thing (I could expand but it would take too many words - think software we buy, or the EV we drive), and second, there is non sense of *self-determination* intrisic to a piece of equipment we operate.
I think we are misusing the word to mean other things which we do not fully articulate. Isn’t #English a wonderful language?
