“[The authors’ paper] analys[ed] a 20+ year multi-temporal landslide dataset for Nepal. [They] show[ed] that existing landslides account for ~80% of landslide cells visible each year. [They] also f[ou]nd that the extent of triggering events, such as earthquakes and storms, can be identified at scale using metrics such as year with maximum landslide density and persistence. This work demonstrates the importance for using multi-temporal datasets to better understand national-scale landslide hazard as well as the need to consider existing landslides in mitigation measures…”
