"Secretive Christian sect accused of funding far-right disruption of Australian elections

The secretive Plymouth Brethren church says it stays out of politics. Allegations that it secretly paid far-right activists to disrupt Australia’s election last year suggest something rather different was happening.

The secretive Plymouth Brethren Christian Church is facing allegations that it secretly paid far-right activists to disrupt the 2025 Australian federal election, using outsiders to attack political opponents while concealing the church’s involvement.

An investigation by *The Sydney Morning Herald* and *The Age* traced almost a dozen incidents in which far-right figures targeted Labor, Greens and independent politicians. The alleged operation included heckling Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, disrupting campaign events and tracking his movements around the country.

Flight-tracking

According to the investigation, senior Brethren figures used flight-tracking applications to follow Albanese’s plane and, on occasions, supplied activists with information about his whereabouts.

Sources told the newspapers that cash payments, running into thousands of dollars, were made to some of those involved, including through intermediaries."
