"For many #Jews, the morning of #Oct7 remains seared into memory. In #JoannSfar’s case, it was also the day of his birthday party, which included “as many #Muslims as Jews,” he told me. It was a sunny afternoon and I was wearing my Newsguild shirt. A person on the sidewalk, deshabille, possibly collecting junk, asked what union I was in. Against my better judgment I engaged, believing them to be a fellow worker. I said I was a journalist. They then decided I was a “fascist” and “complicit.”
“Do you like writing about the #genocide in #Palestine? The war in #Iran?” they asked me, trailing me past a #Judaica store in a very #Jewish neighborhood.

Goodbye Jerusalem
Since the dawn of Islam, Jerusalem has been an integral part of its faith. Its air carries the blessed breaths of messengers who chanted the remembrance of God and called for His oneness. Its Al-Aqsa Mosque is the place of the Prophet’s Night Journey, may God bless him and grant him peace. God has blessed its surroundings and multiplied the reward for those who worship in it. How many stories have been told in its path, and how many heroic deeds and stances have been recorded in its courtyards? -
