  7. Did you know I publish a #newsletter on #Substack? It's called "Murder, She's Writing." I've cut back from the usual weekly schedule to every other week for a little while, while I prepare the second book in my Lily Gallagher Mysteries series for publication in July.

Every issue tells you something about what I'm working on, and includes a book review or two and some interesting quotes. Newsletter readers also get [1/2]

  8. Today: a war president's confession, a school board's erasure, Beijing's quiet warning, and the grounding practices that keep us upright while we name it. The Gathering runs on no algorithm and no billionaire — just paid readers and the ads you click. One click costs nothing. It keeps us writing. Please.

  12. I find it so difficult to figure out what to say in these posts, which is why I’ve had inconsistency issues in the past. Yes, being exhausted and stressed with the everyday struggle of survival doesn’t help, but that’s not everything. One thing my head keeps going back to is a simple idea that should help with these posts: “Just put out there what you’d like to see from other writers.” I guess one of my problems is I don’t tend to find myself hunting for tidbits from my favorites, so it makes me feel like I lack a basic framework for what I should be doing with social media when it comes to my writing.
It’s alright, I’ll keep at it and get better.
I am going to shoot for one to two posts a week (I know, that’s nothing when it comes to the wild world of social media), whether I just drop a couple of sentences to show that I’m still within the confines of this dimension, or I dive into something longer, like character lore, how my book ideas spawned, my big series plans, or how Vampire Hunter D is one of my favorite characters in fiction. For now, my plan is also to not have much behind my Substack subscription paywall, as I’m working hard to plot out a whole series while also wondering if I need to find a part-time job to give my strapped finances some sort of breathing room.
All that said, I’ve had some coffee, I’ve got some music going (Yama’s Versus the Night album at the moment), I think it’s time to shoot this blog post out into the void hoping it reaches my dear readers (present and future), and work on plotting Chapter 4 of Shadowed Memories: Dark Shadow Volume 3. Maybe I’ll have to talk more about that in the next post…
May your days be wonderful, and creative spirit nourished by Meraki’s unending flames,
    ~E.L.F.

  13. For those still uninformed: #Substack is a #Nazi boosting platform, they know this, and won't stop, because they profit from Nazi content.

  17. The blog/newsletter/longform is a thing. It needs to be an open ecosystem like podcasting, where nobody needs to care who is helping you publish it but only that it can be read/TTS to them any way they want. And that writers can get paid.

  18. This gives me hope that Australians, by and large, aren’t what #PHON is all about:

“Australian voters are sorting not on left-right economic axes but on openness-versus-authoritarian trait dimensions, and the sort is accelerating. Right-wing cultural populism, the One Nation product, mobilises the authoritarian end of that distribution. It is effective in cohorts where authoritarian traits are over-represented: older voters, voters with low formal education, voters in racially and culturally homogeneous areas, voters whose lived experience does not include being on the receiving end of the politics of race.”

In the context of a growing #MultiCultural Australia and the aging #WASPish voters, there is hope for a future without a threat from PHON and its current voters.

Read more (Long read) - I know it’s #substack but the article is well worth reading if you despair at PHON’s recent electoral gains.

  23. I hate how "Substack" is used like a noun. "Check out my Substack." Makes me want to puke in my mouth. 🤮

I'm glad to see people are leaving Substack for other options... better options. I just hope more will.

  29. Since I'm diving back into Substack more seriously, and reintroducing myself to that space, I figured why not do the same across platforms. The name’s Evander Lee Fragoso, and I’m a writer. I’m currently working towards a series that continues my last book, which was an Urban Fantasy Psychological Thriller. I’ve written a few other stories that connect to it, including a sci-fi detective and a short story about a writer experiences horrors in a cabin in the woods. I’m a fan of horror movies, action-adventure RPGs, and anime, all of which have had an influence on my work. My favorite book series are Yashakiden: The Demon Princess, Vampire Hunter D (both written by Hideyuki Kikuchi), and The Dark Tower (Stephen King). I’m also an artist and created a few of my own book covers, and my favorite artist is the great Yoshitaka Amano.

If any of that resonates with you in the slightest bit, subscribe to my feed, let’s travel through the dark shadow shrouded world together. What have you got to lose?

  35. #Productive day today, for a refreshing change. I posted a #Substack post, and also made some long-overdue changes to my subscriptions, including letting go of some paid ones that I don’t follow as much anymore. Also, Sarah and I worked on a long-term budget for us, and I actually fully participated and didn’t have an emotional meltdown. This is actually huge. So, on balance, it’s been a great day. #GoodThings
