Whoa y’all! Speaking of all things spawned from #Zuckerberg, a #NM judge just said #Facebook was a “public nuisance”, which while funny, I’m given to understand is a very big deal in legal precedent.
Judge Bryan Biedscheid concluded that #Meta had caused and substantially contributed to a “public nuisance” in New Mexico. He ordered the social media giant to pay $567 million into a fund meant to remedy harms caused by Facebook and #Instagram. That comes on top of $375 million in civil penalties a jury previously imposed in the same case, bringing Meta’s total legal bill to $942 million.
The company is facing thousands of lawsuits across the country from state governments, school districts, families, and individuals.
#CA, #CO, #KY, and #NJ are seeking $1.4 trillion in penalties for allegations that Facebook and Instagram were designed to addict users.
For anyone keeping score, that figure is just under Meta’s market capitalization of roughly $1.5 trillion.

#NM could use our $75 billion sovereign wealth fund (which is managed by the State Investment Council aka SIC) to purchase "preferred shares" in PNM that are tied to specific, and much needed, grid storage + transmission projects.
The state would get dividends, and once the projects hit milestones, it would cash out its shares
This is a good option b/c money could stay long enough to help the company grow ("patient capital") and send a signal to institutional investors that PNM is healthy

pity there is such desolation at the NM/CO border. its a long way to get to pueblo or any other populous area. if we can hop to colorado springs, we likely would connect through to #denver.

But acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and Jay Clayton, US attorney for the Southern District of New York, each of whom is a nominee for permanent Trump cabinet positions, have only turned over 31 pages of non-useful information. They are stonewalling the rest of it.
"NM Attorney General Raúl Torrez told MS Now on Thursday night why his office is on the verge of suing the DOJ for its failure to cooperate. As Torrez explained, New Mexico 'stood down' its 2019 state investigation into #EpsteinCrimes at the request of the Southern District of New York. The #SDNY had agreed to refer back to NM any state-related matters once its case concluded.
"Clayton claims to be withholding Zorro Ranch documents out of some sort of concern for privacy and protection orders.
