Aztec Ruins (Structures) National Monument. (It has nothing to do with the Aztecs of Mexico. White people named it long ago & it stuck. It would more properly be called Chaco North or Middle San Juan Nat. Mon.) They held a Native fine art fair on the grounds today. And yes, this is where I moved to. The trailer park I'm in borders the Monument. If it weren't for trees I would be able to see this view from my front door!

"The Mysterious Giant Temples of Neolithic Europe
Five thousand years ago, across the plains of modern Ukraine and Romania, the people of the Cucuteni–Trypillia culture built some of the largest settlements on Earth. For decades, these remarkable communities have been presented as egalitarian proto-cities without kings, palaces, or social hierarchy. But recent discoveries have revealed enormous megastructures whose purpose remains fiercely debated. Were they temples, assembly halls, elite residences, lineage houses, men's houses, or centres of governance? In this video, I explore the archaeology of the Trypillia megastructures and what they reveal about power, inequality, religion, and social organisation in prehistoric Europe."

While clearing debris to protect ancient Egyptian tombs from flash floods, researchers near Luxor stumbled upon an unknown 3,000-year-old tomb. Its remarkably preserved paintings depict an official named Paser, his wife, religious scenes, and offerings of food and flowers. The discovery comes as climate-driven flooding poses a growing threat to these fragile remains

This cave painting from around 15,000-13,000 BC, found in the Lascaux Cave in France, is known as The Chinese Horse, so called because it shows some resemblance to traditional Chinese painting. The artist used mineral pigments (ocher, hematite, manganese). The cave, discovered in 1940, is now closed to the public due to conservation issues. #art #archeology #arthistory #prehistory #prehistoric
From French prehistorian Jean Clottes: “Rock art as a whole is one of the most important cultural heritage assets in the history of Humanity. Lascaux is certainly one of its jewels, but the most humble of the decorated sites is a witness of ancient cultural beliefs and practices, and therefore it must be protected. Lascaux strongly reminds us of the reasons why preservation is a necessity: above all to limit the effects of human activity on any decorated sites, and on their surrounding environment. That is the main condition for their survival.”

A Staggering Excavation Has Rewritten The Fall of The Roman Empire
Interamna Lirenas has turned out to be far more than a “backwater town” of the Roman Empire. According to a published study in Roman Urbanism in Italy, this central Italian town thrived well beyond previous belief, using its impressive urban features and forward-thinking design to stave off the effects of the empire’s collapse well into the 3rd century AD. “We started with a site so unpromising that no one had ever tried to excavate it,” Alessandro Launaro, the study’s author […] -

The findings show zoonotic diseases began spreading around 6,500 years ago, likely triggered by farming and animal domestication.
