September 30, 1983, 43 years ago today: After the shelter, the AT descended for a half-mile to Pemadumcook Lake, which was even bigger than Lower Jo-Mary. A short side trail led to a point along the shore with an awesome view of Katahdin across the lake, but only the dimmest outline of the mountain was visible through the haze. It looked even closer, but it still seemed like a dream.
