Since a couple of people have asked how that lake looks in winter: It does/did indeed freeze over, at least partially and used to for at least a few weeks, but it's been less reliably so over the past few years (e.g. winter 2022/23 was the first time in living memory, when the lake was not completely frozen)... Like the Himalayas, the Alps (and other mountain regions) are also warming at above average rates...
I took the picture below just after sunset on a day in mid Feb 2022, when the lake did have very nice ice cover...
Also here, the neighboring (connected) lake at Christmas day 2024:

Glaciers in the Alps are on track for a record-breaking ice loss.
Glacier loss could break the 2022 record after a series of heatwaves this summer, raising the risk of falling river levels and deadly ice avalanches.

When I say " Germany has a geologically active volcano ", everyone looks at me weird – now I'll also tell you that the #Alps are #tectonically active ..... 😁
Increased tectonic activity, particularly in western #Slovenia and on the edge of the Southern Alps

Why wait for golden hour when everything is already there?
Wide shot from five frames with the 16‑55, stitched in LR.
I always try to shoot before golden hour: do it, it’s often worth it.#ValDeBagnes #Mauvoisin #Alps #LandscapePhotography #Fujifilm #OutdoorLife #swissmountains #nature #travel

Probably one of the most "textured" places I've ever been to...

It was supposed to be a simple bivouac… but the sunset was far from ugly.
Altitude, colours, and silence,
a parenthesis in this too‑hot summer.#Switzwrland #Alps #ValDeBagnes #MountainPhotography #Bivouac #Twilight #OutdoorLife #europe #combin #mauvoisin

Cammino di Oropa
Ho portato mia nipote e mia sorella a fare il Cammino di Oropa.
4 giorni, da Santhià a Oropa. 65km tra pianura, collina e montagna, dalle risaie ai boschi ai pascoli alpini.
A piedi. Incontrando persone. Costruendo esperienze.Mia nipote ha 8 anni. Ha chiesto lei di partire.
Ed è arrivata alla fine senza battere ciglio.
Sono orgogliosa di lei. E di sua mamma.

Question for the Alpine hikers and trailrunners here: do you know about an app or website where I can check the status of hiking paths in the Italian part of the Alps, such as https://schweizmobil.ch/en/map does for Switzerland?
I will be in the Italian Alps on the Tour of Monte Rosa between Passo de Monte Moro and Theodulpass end of next week and want to know if there are any closed sections I will have to detour.
