I usually upload my #gaming videos (such as they are) to my Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@roytang), but I was thinking how it sucks that YT is the "de facto" place to upload videos and that there should be more alternatives, then I remembered that #Peertube exists and maybe I should also upload my stuff there?

I'm a bit worried about the concept of decentralized video because I its likely much more expensive to host (compared to masto etc). How healthy is Peertube? Any recommended instances?

If you like #SuperFile, take a look at yazi. I have used them both extensively, and while SuperFile is arguably pertier, I've found #yazi to be far more usable, especially over ssh.

Also, I wanna say I remember you talking about posting videos to a #PeerTube instance as well. Do you, or am I remembering this wrongly?

@peertube In my Peertube instance I get remote comments on remote videos even though I have remote videos blocked from my instance.

Those remove videos are not watchable from my instance, but from moderation view I can see comments from remote videos.

Is this intentional design or a bug? I would like to allow remote comments on my videos, but prefer not to also have comments from other videos even though they are not visible for anyone in my instance.

Free idea:

A Fediverse/Social Web front-end for YouTube. Kill the algorithm and the front page. You make an account on an instance, and that server handles delivering videos for you to click on.

They *could* do this in any way they want, but let's be honest, the best way to do it would be via community sharing. You can "boost" videos, and then all your followers can see those videos. You just follow people who tend to like the same kinds of videos as you. You can also directly follow the people you're subscribed to (like, the YouTube channel, not a Fediverse account), and get a consistent feed of all their uploads.

The people running it wouldn't need to handle hosting video content. They just cache metadata, and it should theoretically be quite similar to running a Mastodon instance. You don't even need to have a video player, you can just have a link that sends you to the official YouTube site.

Does this already exist? Last I heard, YouTube has pretty good support still for their APIs that let people do this kind of stuff.

Всем привет! Сегодня я хочу вам рассказать о Peertube — некоммерческой децентрализованной видеоплатформе с открытым исходным кодом. В нем есть возможность загрузки контента, комментирования, поиска, а также изменения видео, когда оно уже опубликовано. Peertube основан на технологии P2P (peer-to-peer) для обмена видео по принципу всех известных торрентов. Исторически PeerTube использовал WebTorrent, но уже несколько лет (начиная с версии 6.0) проект полностью перешел на протокол HLS в связке с WebRTC. Что лучше — централизация или децентрализация? Что такое Fediverse? И наконец — как создать свой инстанс-сайт для сохранения видео на случай, например, блокировки ютуба? Давайте-ка погрузимся в теорию и практику! В конце концов мы опубликуем свой децентрализованный видеохостинг!
