@koen What kinds of reactions? Likes from the fediverse do show up on #WriteFreely as a plain count on each post, but replies don't for now -- that's on our roadmap!

I see that reacting to a @writefreely post does not reach the #WriteFreely server so you will have to monitor reactions to you blog on the fediverse some other way.

Is there anything on the roadmap for this?

Spam is one of the biggest issues @write_as and other @writefreely instances face -- especially in the age of LLMs.

I've wanted to build a spam classification system for a while, and I'm finally getting to it this week. It'll be made especially for #WriteFreely, and plug into it to help with moderation, both manual and automatic.

Will share more details soon!

And now a reminder - WriteFreely instead of...

- The overhead you may not be wanting to inherit with #WordPress
- The #Freemium model constantly pressuring you to subscribe to hosted #Ghost

For super serious #ActivityPub powered publishing those two seem to be the only options that come to mind. Certainly, masto is and always has been little more than a joke in that regard, although many have tweaked it to introduce certain improvements; and Between Ghost and WordPress there's truly very little in the way of serious options beyond the #Fediverse where you push out monolithic or RSS syndicated blogs in the world of FOSS.

As many of you are actually aware, #WriteFreely has, in their own words, been there since the beginning. But for some reason, it often seems to slip the mind of the people it most serves to deliver for.

Since it costs nothing to get started, let's begin by changing that and spin ourselves up an instance, shall we?

You can #self_host or be #freely_hosted, and yes, if you later opt for a subscription based, competently managed, hosted solution you are directly contributing to the development team and future progress of the project.

Thanks to your suggestions, we now have a new service: #WriteFreely , a publishing/blogging platform that runs on #ActivityPub.

This new service is available at https://write.theatl.social - users at any membership level may now create a blog.

Logging in is easy: your existing theATL.social Mastodon account logs you in.

I've (publicly) forked the WriteFreely repo to continue developing on additional features...first of which is easy adding of pictures and other media. I'm open to suggestions as to what should be worked on next.

Here's one that finally surfaces alt text from images in your #WriteFreely posts as alt text in the #fediverse to make them more accessible here:

Going through our backlog of #WriteFreely issues today, and fixing a ton. Some are out of date / no longer applicable, but others are relatively quick fixes.

when you are using #writefreely make sure to update to 0.17.2. there is a bug, that people can register without a inventation. I had 5 new spam users. Gladly I could delete them.

All #WriteFreely instances are up-to-date and on v0.17.2 now!

Sowohl für https://plume.stage.anoxinon.de/ als auch https://writefreely.stage.anoxinon.de/ sind die Registrierungen erst mal abgeschaltet. Beide hatten ein starkes Bot Probleme und keine Option die Registrierung auf ein Genehmigungsverfahren umzustellen.

PSA: #writefreely has another registration exploit. Instance admins are encouraged to pull the fixes and build binary before the official release.
