• I am NOT associated with HR/recruiting in ANY way
• Therefore, these are NOT endorsements, and there are no ‘referrals’ or the like for me
• I am simply sharing SOME roles I have seen – in the hope that they are of use to someone
• As such, I am not (and indeed can not) in any way ‘vet’ these roles (i.e., you are advised to conduct your own due diligence due to hideous, potential risks like fraudulent postings, ‘ghost jobs’, résumé/ATS ‘improvement’ scammers, etc)
• Further, roles listed are in no specific order (i.e., simply as I ‘encountered’ them during the week)
• There is ZERO cost to access this list of spatial / GIS roles
• I am not (really) ‘mining’ US Federal government roles - with the ‘hiring freeze’, uncertainty, etc
• You can subscribe to the (free) weekly LinkedIn newsletter www.linkedin.com/build-relation/newsletter-follow?entityUrn=7397678824928366594 or also for free at earthstuff.Substack.com - if so inclined#fridayjobs #gischat #jobsonfriday #GIS #spatial #mapping #cartography #geography #job #jobopenings #hiring #newjob #employment #roles #GISJobs #NotARecruiter #fridayspatialjobs #scholarship #PhD #PostDoc #CareersInSpatial #career #openroles #Geomatics #GIS #Innovation #Growth #caveatNONemptor #LetsGetYouHired #GISCareer #GISStudents #PhD #postdoc #hiringalert #GISjobs #careeropportunity #NowHiring #spatialanalysis #GIS #Geospatial #GISSpecialist #Geomatics #OpenToWork

🚀 Wow, breaking news: you can now use #Rust to make your #GPU slightly more efficient in a way only a #PhD could understand! 🎓 Because what developer doesn't dream of spending 12 minutes reading about mapping threads just to realize their code is still slower than a snail on a treadmill? 🐌⌛

📚 Apparently, 155 pieces of research advice were not enough.
The second edition of How to Survive (and Thrive) in Research is out!
I’ve added 15 new pieces of advice, bringing the total to 170+ short, pragmatic, and brutally honest lessons about navigating a research career based on my 20+ years of experience (23 since my first paper, at the @null, called #uml at the time, to be precise).
The goal remains the same: to help junior researchers (new PhDs, new posdocs, new PIs,...) learn in a few hours some of the things that would otherwise take years (ok, allow me a bit of overselling for a second 🙏) of trial and error to discover.
From choosing your PhD topic to publishing, getting funding, dealing with reviewers, building collaborations, finding a job, managing a team and, occasionally, actually doing some research.
Among the new pieces of advice:
👉 A paper accepted is worth two in the pipeline
👉 The grass is always greener in the private sector
👉 Avoid impostor syndrome
👉 Do not listen to my adviceAnd a small thank-you to those who already bought the first edition: if you already own the book, just write to me and I’ll send you the updated version for free. Don't buy it again for the new advices. And well, you wouldn't do it anyway 😉. I'd just ask you for an honest review on Amazon as this will help other researchers-in-need discover it.

In my experience I'd say this is good advice and good stuff to think about.
Don't do a PhD now.
