Just stated using bookwyrm, joined the largest instance. I really like it in concept, but man it seems slow and it hangs a lot. Was yesterday just a slow day or is it always like that? I made a second account on the rambling readers instance and it was WAY faster but lacks in interaction.

bookrastinating.com, the #BookWyrm instance I am on, has been down for two weeks now - with no indication whether the admin is still trying to fix it.
My last export of my BookWyrm data is from November 25th of 2025, which isn't too bad. Still, if the instance stays down I will have to consider whether I want to move to another BookWyrm instance - or to #NeoDB , which not only has data on books, but also on all kinds of other media.

Found out as I was trying to log the book I just finished that the #bookwyrm instance I was on, bookrastinating.com, is down, and apparently has been for close to two weeks... I do hope it comes back. #hugops to the admins. I know what it's like to maintain community infrastructure on your own time and dime. Sometimes life gets in the way of things.

Figured it's high time I move from Goodreads to #BookWyrm, but which instance? https://bookwyrm.social/ has by far the most users, and by extension library I assume? But is it "safe"? As in the way mastodon.social isn't.

I picked Bookrastinating as my #Bookwyrm instance because it was the 2nd largest in the recommended list. I didn't want the biggest but also not fringe. Its been down a week with zero comms. I look at the owner and admin's personal account and they are just living their lives with nary a mention so it doesn't seem like it is weighing on them.
They owe me nothing. This is my own fault for having no backup. Still sucks to see years of reading history disappear.

Bookrastinating, one of the largest Bookwyrm instances, has been down since May 3. There was an update same day that they were looking into it.
Since then there have been no updates. The admin has been posting normally on their main account with no mention of it. That sucks.
We're all volunteering here, so it can be clunky. Life can get in the way. But communication is bare minimum here.

#bookwyrm instances might be the natural place to organize this (see e.g., https://bookwyrm.social). Some new functionality: I've read / this book and now looking to swap etc.

No idea how this platform / community is doing these days but it always seemed to me like a wholesome initiative that can differentiate the fediverse from classic adtech social in good ways.
