  4. "Postcard is a new email client for GNOME, built with AI"

"The app is the work of a solo developer, gxanshu on GitHub, who is upfront about using AI coding tools to bring this “modern mail client” to life. Postcard is a new email client for GNOME sporting a modern design reminiscent of Geary."

  5. Start your weekend with a new #OpenZFS release!

2.4.4 and 2.3.9 are the new Stable and LTS releases. Loads of interesting bugfixes, and support for Linux 7.2.0. Meanwhile, 2.2.11 gets a small number of the most important fixes.

Get them via the links below, or look for them in OS repositories in the next few days. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

  6. 🐧 SIGINT // Ubuntu Watch — 2026-08-22

Ubuntu patching WiFi mesh packet injection plus AMD Zen 2 cache issues across every LTS branch at once is the kind of sweep homelabbers with mixed hardware fleets need to schedule reboots for now, not later.

  7. I've been a full-time #linux user for about 18 months now. First #ubuntu, then #mint, now #fedora (yes, it is very likely mastodon's fault). Very happy with it all. And I have learnt plenty. Seeking #recommendations for (e)books or courses for learning how to terminal/bash better. If it's free (or low cost) that'd be cool, because money is pretty tight right now.

I'm not a complete beginner, but sed and parameter expansion and regex-looking things are intimidating.

    boosts welcome, I suppose.

  11. Okay, Linux people riddle me this.

I gotta help another old laptop begging to be upgraded to Linux from Windows. The user is not TUI literate and would prefer GUI based interactions. It is a hybrid graphics setup, Intel + AMD.

What would you suggest? Remember stability over cutting edge features.

  12. 🐧 SIGINT // Ubuntu Watch — 2026-08-21

Public root exploit on Ubuntu 24.04 via vsock. If you run VMs or containers exposing vsock, patch now, this isn't theoretical anymore, someone already weaponized it.

  15. For those trying to listen to the new podcast, it’s intentionally empty and silent. The odd thing about Creators Spotify is that it is still the Anchor platform and Spotify have put no effort into it. The Ubuntu UK podcast has been there for a year. The way the platform works is its hidden till an episode it published. Hence our silent entrance open.spotify.com/show/2nnjMwng .#ubuntuUK #ubuntu

  18. Pleased to find that during my absence / vacation, #FreeTube on #Ubuntu via #Snap has made it to back to full operation via an update.

Enjoy #YouTube without getting brainwashed by suggestions that only disturb you… subscribe to channels without a YouTube account.

    Very good.

Although not a perfect solution. Good YouTubers actually need the money from ads. But then again, with YT ad blockers like the one in Brave, which I use and many people in my bubble… same thing – plus algorithm addiction.

Can't heal the system. But at least I can try to take care of myself.

  19. "Dynamic icons GNOME extension adds 2 new styles, Yaru fixes"

  20. A good error dialog should tell you what failed, why it failed and what to do next.

Ubuntu's App Center offers none of those things with a shoulder shrug of an error message to say it's 'not sure what the error is'.

With critical features like driver management coming in 26.10, isn't it time for its error reporting to be a little more… clued-in?
