Never mind just Linux; this would seem to raise serious issues for any group producing their own kernel without an army of lawyers on staff e.g. *BSD, RedoxOS, Graphene, ReactOS, Haiku, illumos and perhaps even plan9 and operating system textbooks and learning frameworks like FluxOSKit. There is furthermore some significant scariness about packets crossing borders rendering ppl liable for violations of all this when passing through spaces wherein USA agents may apprehend them.

There is a silver lining to the whole #python #chardet debacle. If it is legal to throw a pile of code at an LLM, and tell it to write a new version of that code that is not a derivative then that gives us a lot of options too.
GPL compatible #ZFS? no problem! #ReactOS from the leaked NT/2k sources? No problem!
Maybe this is a golden age for the collapse of proprietary software after all. If they can do an end run around the #GPL we can do an end run around the #EULA.

Тезис: следует создать такой дистрибутив Linux, который по умолчанию выполняет двоичные файлы Windows через Wine. Если я найду файл в формате .exe, которому 20 лет, я по-прежнему смогу запустить его на современной Windows. Попробуйте проделать подобное с двоичным файлом Linux, которому всего год. Совершенно не гарантированно, что он запустится, в зависимости от того, какие обновления успели произойти. Также не гарантируется, что заработает даже сегодняшний двоичный файл Linux, если собрать его в одном дистрибутиве, а попытаться запустить на разных других дистрибутивах. Возникает ровно такая же проблема, связанная с версиями установленных библиотек.

Fun fact! There is a #FOSS (free and open source) #operatingSystem called #ReactOS, which is designed specifically to be able to run #Windows applications and also to look and feel like Windows. It has been around for many years and is still being developed, even quite seriously with some funding.
Of course, its funding and its development crew are minute compared to Windows, so it is still an unfinished project and you should expect less polish. That being said, many things already work and you can try it out in a #virtualMachine. This page has a lot of useful information and links, including about limitations:

I saw a video from #ExplainingComputers youtube video how #ReactOS has improved.
It is still buggy but surprisingly it works decently now than before.
Admittedly though I only tried on vmware and not on bare metal so it may end up similar to danooct1's reactos baremetal videos

- #ArcaNoae - https://www.arcanoae.com - Eine Weiterentwicklung von OS/2 Warp 4,die immernoch aktiv entwickelt wird und noch die alten #OS2 Programme unterstuetzt,aber auch moderne #Linux und #Windows Programme.Leider ist das Projekt proprietaer und kostenpflichtig,weshalb ich es auch selbst noch nicht ausprobiert habe,aber interessant ist es auf jeden Fall trotzdem.
