💡 New to OpenBSD and wondering what fw_update does?
No, it does not update your firewall 🔥 😉
The fw_update tool can be used to download additional firmware that is not by default available in the installation (often due to its license).
You can perform a dry-run to see what it already has and what it would do.

FreeBSD has a great way of monitoring IO (input/output) with the help of the top command.
This options makes it a lot easier to find which process is causing disk activity (which can be displayed with 'iostat')
Command: top -m io -b

Today I uploaded #CHKSUM release 2, a versatile checksum calculator for #DOS.
The following cryptographic checksum algorithms are supported: #md4, #md5, #sha1, #sha224, #sha256, #sha384, #sha512, #sha3_224, #sha3_256, #sha3_384, #sha3_512
In addition, the following non-cryptographic checksum algorithms are supported: #bsd, #adler32, #fletcher16, #fletcher32, #crc32, #crc32c

#FreeBSD vaihtui #AlpineLinux'iin #RPi2-nimipalvelimessa. Syitä oli kaksi:
1) Ilmeisesti FreeBSD:n versioon 15 ei ole tulossakaan pkg:ta #ARMv7-arkkitehtuuriin (?). Yritykset asentaa pkg päättyivät aina ilmoitukseen, ettei sitä löydy.
2) FreeBSD:n versioon 14.4 päivittäminen sinänsä onnistui, mutta jostakin syystä, mahdollisesti pieleen menneen dd:n takia (?), järjestelmä aina jämähti.
Alpine osoittautui kuitenkin kevyeksi ja näppäräksi. #Busybox riittää hyvin. #atkjuttuja #floss #bsd #linux -

Getting back into #FreeBSD purely for fun. It’s where my *NIX journey started many years ago.
Setting up my server, Jails, VLANs, and some public facing services came naturally. The two Raspberry Pi conversations were easy with the public docs. Laptop setup has seen many improvements over the years (well, suspend issues aside 😉).
What surprised me is the friction with Linux compatibility—finding a solid guide to run modern, bloated Electron apps is tough! The Linux distros haven't made it easy, changing libraries and systems. But I'm still surprised.
Once I finish reinstalling this laptop for the Nth time and get it sorted, I’ll share my docs here.
