Wednesday, usually Brave browser release day.
For #voiclinux #void users of #brave who use #voidpackages , I've updated the templates for both browsers in the https://codeberg.org/mobinmob/abyss-packages repo of templates. git pull and go.

https://www.techradar.com/vpn/vpn-privacy-security/privacy-giant-proton-may-be-building-a-web-browser-but-its-community-turns-cold
(Well, I don't rely that heavily on the Proton ecosystem, so I didn't notice any bug in existing products, but regardless, I also think they shouldn't expand more, because they already have a wide ecosystem which can lock people in, so it's basically Google. People should be taught to avoid putting all eggs in one basket, not to switch to another ecosystem just because it claims to be more privacy-focused. There were already some news that Proton handed over user data to authorities.)
(As for the Chromium base, I agree that supporting the Chromium monopoly isn't a good idea, although unfortunately it's necessary to use a Chromium-based browser for a few sites, web apps which don't play nice with Firefox.)Signal to add optional registration without phone number through one-time payment:

#Brave improves protections against GPU fingerprinting

🚨 Brave is rolling out new protections to reduce GPU fingerprinting by masking WebGL/WebGPU data like vendor/renderer and randomizing WebGL extension lists. Enabled by default on desktop & Android, rolling out gradually after Nightly/Beta testing. Keep Brave updated: https://cyberinsider.com/brave-browser-adds-new-defenses-against-gpu-fingerprinting/ #Brave #WebGL #WebGPU #CyberSecurity #Privacy

Goodies come early today. Whilst some of you are stil TGIF'in, the sundries have arrived on our Saturday morning.
This week brings 6 updates for our Slackware boxes: bottom, brave-origin, fresh-editor, librewolf, proton-pass and vivaldi-stable.
EDIT: And we have one new entry this week, the musicplayer Harmonoid.

Wednesday, so likely #Brave Browser release and sure enough, 1.93.136 is available. I updated the #voidlinux #voidpackages compatible templates for the original browser and the Origin browser in the abyss-packages repo at https://codeberg.org/mobinmob/abyss-packages/

Firefox e Brave mantêm suporte ao uBlock Origin, enquanto Chrome e Edge avançam com bloqueios do Manifest V2. A Mozilla e a Brave confirmam que o suporte ao uBlock Origin não desaparecerá no Firefox.

What's also interesting their localhost open ports scan is inconsistent on #Brave.
Sometimes it shows "none" (dev tools show a CORS error then) and sometimes it finds 3 (127.0.0.1:5900 [qemu], 0.0.0.0:5000 [octoprint, aka a webserver], 0.0.0.0:631 [cups, also a webserver])
On Google Chrome it always finds 2 my octoprint and cups. The 5900 shows up with an "invalid http response" error in the dev tools there.
Interesting.

Looks like https://kuber.studio/cookie/ for @brave can't tell that I was already on the site when I open the page on private mode or in Tor mode.
But it will generate the very same device identifier.
Huh, how does that make any sense.

That time of the week again!
Four updates this week (the browsers and fresh-editor) and one announcement:
Per the 1st of September I'll stop making the Vivaldi package. There's an excellent SlackBuild for that available, made by Ruarí Ødegaard, one of the actual maintainers of Vivaldi.
No better than that, and I prefer laziness over double efforts 😆
While it's still available as a slackosundry get it over here:

I missed that #Brave released 1.93.134 on Friday (yesterday). Makes me think something was so urgent it couldn't wait. Haven't had time to research, but this is an update you probably want to take.
#void-packages #voidlinux #void-linux templates in that repo have been updated today to handle these releases for those using void-packages.
