  1. I'm reading about AT Protocol, and it reminded me of Solid and the concept of PODs. Couldn't an atproto PDS (Personal Data Server) be able to connect to a Solid POD? You would allow the PDS to fetch some data (which would become public, relayed through atproto), while the rest of the data remains private.

    - Solid POD: keeps all your data
    - atproto PDS: can access a subset of your data (public data)
    - the rest of atproto works as usual

  2. anonymous asked

Is it easier or harder to integrate atproto tech to an existing service ? I've heard both, you get to break the deadlock

it really depends on how your service works currently, and how many assumptions you've made early on

ATProto really only needs you to write data in a specific format to a sort of "database" (the PDS), and that then automatically gets picked up by appviews of the network. So in that sense, it's not very difficult to integrate, but depending on the assumptions that you might have made early on, it might take you more or less work to do so, especially if you have to also emit other content formats.

  3. TIL about "Atmosphere", the AT Protocol-based European network of services and apps. There's mu (the cool place?), Colibri (to build communities), Tangled (GitHub-like), and many others. I feel lost. But that's cool.

  4. About the only truly independent instance I know, #Blacksky, is still working to some capacity. The problem being of course that an independent #ATProto instance requires a LOT of investment, that's why there's only one for now
  5. What's the point of using a non-bluesly PDS ( #Eurosky ) with a non-blusky app/ui ( #Mu ) if it buckles when #Bluesky goes down?

What's the problem? Isn't Eurosky really independant form BS? Or is #atproto only pretending to be ready for federation?

    Meanwhile, I'm riled.

  6. BMC Next website thoughts:

Localfirst: HappyView running on desktop with SQLite. Keep my own atproto records synced & indexed. Run a search across that, locally. And other search endpoints? Also: private data.

Sync the SQLite db to website server? Extract links? Sync with Semble?

  8. I kinda wouldn't mind being done with this part already… #ruby #atproto

  9. I just want to understand WHY the #atproto dev community is, by and large, SO GODDAMN UNFORGIVING AND LACKING IN GRACE for PBC?

Yes, they make mistakes. But they own up to them, publicly, and work to correct them, in a way that isn’t built to harm the developer community, but protect them.

  10. Slavs have a saying: "out of fire into flame" Why bounce between the rapidly deteriorating #Twitch and the long-since-rotten #YouTube? Better to switch (and bring your audience to) to the free alternatives!
Experience true enlightenment with the power, functionality, user-friendliness, and diversity of
#PeerTube. The total independence of #Owncast. The absolute integration of #ATproto: all your readers on #Bluesky will instantly become your viewers on #Streamplace without lifting a finger. The full force of censorship-resistant cryptoanarchism of #zapstream and all the profound unconventionality of #shosholive!

  11. CW: AT protocol mention

The leading candidates so far are Openmeet, Heylo, and Luma. Of these three, only Openmeet is open source, and positioned as an explicit alternative to Openmeet. It is based on the #ATproto, though, not on #ActivityPub.

  12. Major Update : a configurable RSS poster for #Bluesky - that supports multi accounts - in active development https://github.com/rmdes/bsky.rss

  13. Another #atproto thread for books: this time about REVIEWS - the hottest topic that everyone clamors about (because everyone got something to say).

About 70% confident what lands here can be pulled into its own lexicon for other media formats.

  14. Ah, the endless sea of #buzzwords and acronyms in which "distributed #systems engineers" must swim like dazed goldfish. 🐠 Dive deep into the #ATProto rabbit hole, where the #jargon is as thick as molasses and coherence is a distant dream. 😂 Spoiler: it's a miracle anyone ever gets anything done. 🛠️

  15. I’ve been seeing all these new blogging platforms being built on top of ATProto, and it got me thinking: why haven’t we seen more full-fledged blogging platforms built on Nostr? And what about other things like email or chat? #Tech #ATProto #Nostr

  16. very good read. keep it open and read it in pieces if you need to (is long).

    #atdev #atproto #artists #art #community and #DisabledInSTEM y’all might appreciate this for its greater message and ideas.

  18. Wishing there was a fully supported ATgeo lexicon that most bluesky app views could understand…it would allow us to build location aware posts from location data (think disasters, quakes, flood etc)

This post originally appeared on The Fulcrum. Welcome to this week's The Programmer's Fulcrum. It's your weekly curation of the essential news in the Open Media Network and Open Social development communities with a focus on devastating big tech via Techno Anarchism. As usual, we aim to provide actionable content you can use to destroy Techno Feudalism each week. It has the additional benefit of weakening authoritarianism. IMHO, the best way to do that is to use tools from the Techno […]

  20. There is so much happening on the #ATproto Atmosphere that its hard to keep up, I’m not talking about Bluesky the company, I’m talking about this or this or this its really a never-ending exploration no matter where this is going, this being decentralization and building on top of the protocol, it’s good for the web.
