:tx: - Un exvicepresidente de Gainax reveló que los fundadores del estudio rechazaron una oferta directa para adaptar el manga Akira en sus primeros años, un encargo que descartaron con soberbia según su propio testimonio.
El veterano Hiroaki Inoue aseguró que la directiva de Gainax temió perder el control de su propia empresa ante el peso creativo de Otomo, prefiriendo centrar sus esfuerzos en proyectos originales propios.
Tras el rechazo, Otomo dirigió personalmente la legendaria película de 1988 con otro estudio, mientras que Gainax terminó colaborando solo como apoyo secundario antes de crear la franquicia de Evangelion.

:tx: - Un miembro de Bibury Animation Studios detalló el brutal trabajo detrás del concierto idol en la tercera temporada de The 100 Girlfriends, demostrando que el dibujo tradicional sigue en su máximo nivel.
Resulta que la secuencia requirió más de 15,000 dibujos hechos completamente a mano, usando modelos 3D únicamente como guía de referencia para los tiros de cámara.
En una industria donde casi todas las series prefieren meter CGI para ahorrarse dolores de cabeza en las coreografías, el equipo decidió quemarse las pestañas cuadro por cuadro, regalándole a la comunidad una verdadera clase magistral de animación pura.

Se veía venir, me dan pena mucho de esos ya que van a pasar a tener trabajos que no les gustan aunque con el actual solo se mantuviera pero al menos les gustaba y creo que esto también va afectar a muchos artistas europeos e independientes que se vayan preparando.

I read the first volume of Tower Dungeon by Nihei yesterday. I was very much looking forward to this. One of my first Manga two decades ago was Nihei's Blame and it showed me how different this medium can be.
Tower Dungeon is a very impressive manga and an engaging read. Nihei gets to flex his architecture muscle again, but it's the creature designs and the mood that really steals the show here.
I'm not big into Dark Souls and the like, but this very much feels like a spin on the dark fantasy mood it strives for. Some slight humor sprinkled in but overall, this really hits the nail on its head.
Thankful that the German edition goes for a larger format as well. Nihei is one of those mangaka whose art really speaks to you once you have bigger panels.

Witch Hat Atelier, Volume 5 Kamome Shirahama with Stephen Kohler (Translator) (2019) ends the arc of the second test. It also examines the consequences of transformative magic through two different scenarios.
Years of being trapped as sentient golden statues (see also Ozma of Oz (1907) and The Yellow Knight of Oz (1930) have created an entire population bent on revenge. Lessons learned by escaping the dragon in the maze are creatively applied here as a means of escape.
