Distractions and sadness
Everyone deals with sadness, depression even, differently. For me, one of the things I always struggled more with during times of feeling like crap, was money. 🤑 I want to spend money on myself, to cheer myself up with nice things, to make my life better with lovely things, to show myself that I am worth it... I never got myself in too deep, although I've been very close, during some bad depressions... But, it often happens that, the longer I feel bad, the less money will remain on my tiny little savings account. 💸 I will start with a little bit, as I am usually trying to save up for something more expensive. And then, when depression hits me badly, I buy all these little things. I've been slowly building a little vinyl collection over the last few years, starting from scratch and with a limited budget. It's a mix of used and new. I'm not a collector or an audiophile, so I don't care all that much which pressing I get, I just want to listen to some great music.
Today I passed 100 albums, with Amy Whitehouse, Sophie Zelmani and 2 X Pink Floyd; Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall.
The latter is spinning on my turntable right now. -

James Taylor, Walking Man, 1974 on Warner Bros.
I became a James Taylor fan in the 80s via a CD of Greatest Hits but as I'm rebuilding my vinyl collection have been picking up his early 70s albums. Walking Man was his fifth, out in 1974 on Warner Bros. (after his debut had been on Apple Records). It was less successful commercially than the earlier records but stands up well - the title track remains a favorite. I love this album. I hear new things every time I listen to it. Kevin Barnes is one of my all-time favorite drummers but I love the acoustic songs too. I’m sad Mangum hasn’t released anything since but I’m grateful I got to see a few of the reunion shows.

Got this as part of the NMH vinyl box in 2011 but the two LPs are filed with the rest of my records. Was introduced to this band by a guy named Merlin, which sounds like a bit but it’s the truth. He’d just seen them at Lounge Ax and told me I should check them out. Merlin said the second album was better but this one was good too. He was right.
