A really nice new Organ Of Corti album, this time with the addition of a vocalist, Audrey Chen, making all sorts of strange sounds, blending in with the synth tones, tape manipulation, etc. Even the familiar instrumentation sounds kind of new, and all in all, it sounds like a fresh new chapter for them.

Before my dad got cancer and she found Jesus, my mom was a pretty hip young lady. She sold pot out of our fridge and included Zig-Zags in each baggie (so I’m told). And she loved Supertramp. I can remember this album playing on our octagonal hifi. It had a stacking spindle so she’d line up several albums and smoke at the kitchen table while I played with my Hot Wheels on the shag carpet.

This was the 11th and final studio album from The J. Geils Band, and the only one made after Peter Wolf split from the band. Keyboardist Seth Justman provided most of the writing and singing. “Concealed Weapons” wa sthe lead single which broke the top 100 but otherwise was less successful than the preceding Freeze Frame and its single “Centerfold.” My copy—via Electric Vintage in Somerville MA—is a Winchester pressing with custom labels. -
