Citizen are a kind of #punk -ish #indie #alternative band that have a very late #90s /early #2000s vibe to them, but to my ears, a little more interesting than a lot of THAT music was. I’m trying not to use the “E” word, but that’s only here in very limited pockets.

It’s grown on me more and more with each of the three spins I’ve given it, and it’s worth posting just for those who like this kind of rock.

50 years ago today, September 11, 1976, Dickey Lee debuted at #76 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “9, 999, 999 Tears". It went on to peak at #3 for two weeks and spent 18 weeks on the chart.

It’s been a fun and exciting hobby to collect 45 RPM singles in my lifetime. This is one of the classics I was able to buy at my favorite record store that sold new and used records way back then in the 1980s.

Decided to spend a beautiful weather day by taking a day-trip down island, and the majesty of where I live was on full display today.

Found a handful of things I’ve been hunting for quite some time, but THIS was my favorite find of the day.

Manic Pop Thrill is the only album of theirs I’m SUPER passionate about and care to own, and I finally got one today.

Jagged, nervous, guitar driven #80s power pop of the highest order.
It’s abrasive, but very catchy.
A level of awesomeness that was never matched by any of those subsequent albums.

One of the most overlooked classic albums of any genre.

If you don’t know it, or you like The Undertones, spend some time with it.
You’ll like it as much if not MORE than anything that band did.

A bonafide classic for a Saturday night.
The Nightingales final album of their original run; one that mixes #postpunk , #folk , #artrock and incredibly unique arrangements.

A lot of people regularly refer to this as their greatest artistic achievement, which we can debate, but I’ll tell you what… it’s DEFINITELY Robert Lloyd’s best lyrical tour-de-force.
A sharp, witty, dry and sarcastic lyrical masterclass on his part.

This album doesn’t get anywhere near the universal acclaim as it deserves. People who know KNOW. However, they didn’t get the same flowers as Gang Of Four, Wire, The Fall…. ANY of those bands.
And they fucking should have.

A sprawling indie rock masterpiece that I revisit a few times a year, and it still feels as magical as when I first bought it in 1999.

Six 10” records is an incredibly inconvenient way to listen to this masterpiece. I did it once, and to be honest, the records didn’t sound good enough to warrant that kind of inconvenience.
Much in the same way as Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins, another album I’m more than happy to stick to CDs with.

This is one of the defining albums of the late 1990s; an awesome range of styles, and beautiful songcraft.

Another incredible unique CD find from today that I could not pass up.

In Camera didn’t give the world much during their existence (just NINE songs spread out over a single 7” and a pair of 12” E.P.s), but what they DID create packed quite the punch.

A killer #postpunk band from London that lasted three short years, this AWESOME set gathers those nine songs, along with a second disc of live tracks, demos and rehearsal tapes, as well as their Peel Session.

The band’s true gem (for me personally) is the 11+ minute headfuck “The Fatal Day”, which also has a companion in a rehearsal session recording from Brixton, 1980.

I was damn giddy to find this.
AWESOME band from a great time of early #80s post punk.

Great packaging too with that rectangular double envelope and book!

I’m a big fan of the quiet-ish mellow Bill Evans records, and other than You Must Believe In Spring, this might be my favorite one.

It’s so laid back, so beautiful, and one of those all-purpose any time, anywhere kind of records.

Maximum Sunday chillage.

A phenomenal note-perfect songwriting masterpiece for a fine Saturday afternoon.

It baffles my mind that this album was only a commercial success in the Netherlands when it came out in ‘71.

Sure.
NOW it’s recognized as the stroke of genius that it is, but how could have people missed it back then?

More than anything else, White Light shows that Clark was the true heartbeat of The Byrds.
The lyrics are poetry, the music absolutely sublime. Incredible countrified melodies. Just amazing on all fronts.

Listen to his take on “Tears Of Rage” and tell me his isn’t the best version.

I dare you.
