A phenomenal note-perfect songwriting masterpiece for a fine Saturday afternoon.

It baffles my mind that this album was only a commercial success in the Netherlands when it came out in ‘71.

Sure.
NOW it’s recognized as the stroke of genius that it is, but how could have people missed it back then?

More than anything else, White Light shows that Clark was the true heartbeat of The Byrds.
The lyrics are poetry, the music absolutely sublime. Incredible countrified melodies. Just amazing on all fronts.

Listen to his take on “Tears Of Rage” and tell me his isn’t the best version.

I dare you.

I knew I was going to get this, but it was just a matter of whether or not the shitty RSD powers that be decided to send my local shop any.

This is my favorite Dinosaur Jr. era.
The post-Lou #90s records are incredible, but this live set is heavily focused on Green Mind, and it was included in the 2019 European 2xCD version.

This vinyl version is slightly abridged, missing a couple songs that the CD had, which I don’t mind much, because this shit sounds SAVAGE.

I am a Dinosaur Jr. nut job, and a bit of a completist when it comes to them, so I’m happy to have this.

A super noisy, garage-y and bluesy kinda punk record; super loud and abrasive, thanks to the “production” work of the late, great Steve Albini.

This album is all about attitude, confrontation and energy than it is about any kind of refinement. It has a very live and off-the-cuff feel, and although Cristina Martinez’s vocals can be a little off-putting, they work because the band is so visceral.

An interesting record for fans of Jon Spencer’s more refined work in Blues Explosion.

All of the full lengths that followed this E.P. greatly pale in comparison to this. Very disappointing.

This is the only Boss Hog record you’ll need.

SO FRIGGIN HAPPY that they’ve reissued both of the J + The Fog records.

The remaster on this is INCREDIBLE.

J is one of my all-time (hometown) heroes. If you don’t have J. Mascis on your list of most epic guitar gods ever, then I’m afraid I can’t take your list too seriously.

I also picked up Free So Free as well, and they are both more than welcome editions to my vinyl library.

For me, there’s not a weak moment on More Light. Songs like “Waistin” have a sun-soaked #60s California sound to them.
And of course, like ANY album J is on, MONSTER guitar playing.
Because… J Mascis.

I’ll post Free So Free next, but both of these are my two favorite purchases/additions from this year so far.

Some fine Wednesday morning #blues as I plow through some apple pancakes.

I’ve always loved the SOUND of Elmore James. All of the records I have of his just SOUND excellent. It’s a real SOULFUL kind of blues, and he’s always sounded fantastic on vinyl.

James died pretty young; just 45 years old, six months before Kennedy was shot. And as great as his voice was, I think it was his slide guitar playing that was his secret weapon. Even his guitar playing was soulful.

Other than John Lee Hooker, probably my favorite blues performer.
