My birthday is on Wednesday, and a friend of mine just swung by the house to give me this as an early birthday present.

He told me “It’s always 50/50 if I’m ever getting you a record for a present. I never know if you have it or not. I know you like this boot series though, so I took a gamble.”

I DID NOT have it, and yes, I do REALLY like these Radio Broadcast releases. For “unofficial” recordings, all of them that I’VE bought (and I have a bunch of em) have been really good sound-quality wise.

And this one’s no different.

Five really great Syd solo tunes, my favorite of which has always been Baby Lemonade, which, has guitar by David Gilmour, as the studio album version does.

I wonderful early birthday present.

A masterful songwriter, and a dude that had a LOT to do with a young Bob Dylan hitting the stage at Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village.

It still shocks me how many people think that “Everybody’s Talkin’” is a Harry Nilsson song, when in fact it was Neil who wrote it.
That song only became a hit when Nilsson’s version was featured in the 1969 movie Midnight Cowboy.

SUCH a hit that Neil’s self-titled ‘66 album (THIS ONE), was reissued under the name Everybody’s Talkin’, in order to capitalize on the film’s (and song’s) success.

The album however is much more than that one song.
The Dolphins is absolutely beautiful, as is Neil’s take on the traditional tune “Sweet Cocaine”.

A laid back and stellar 38 minutes.
Just such a great record.

I wasn’t going to bother with this, but it’s so Reprehensibly bad, I will.

I hate this record so much.

The Strokes have special meaning to me, having experienced them in real time when I lived in New York, before Is This It? even came out, seeing them live several times around town.

I’ve appreciated how they’ve grown over the years, adding more surreal aspects to what they do, #newwave -y #80s vibes, etc…

However, after 1.5 listens, I can say this is THE WORST Strokes album of their entire catalog.
GARBAGE.
A band like The Strokes don’t need obnoxious Autotune effects.
The songs are dour, lifeless, & without any kind of personality whatsoever.
It sounds like a piss poor Strokes cover band that decided to inject a few originals into their Strokes set, & drown them in Autotune.

AWFUL.

Ich glaube, das Album, das heute auf dem Plattenteller liegt, ist eines der erfolgreichsten von R.E.M. und machte sie berühmt. Out of Time ist ein melancholisches Album (die B-Seite nennt sich Memory side) mit herrlichen melodiösen Stücken wie Losing my Religion, was mein absolutes Lieblingsstück ist, oder Low mit leisen, melancholischen Orgelklängen. Andererseits ist mit Shiny Happy People oder auch Near Wild Heaven auch ein bisschen Leichtigkeit dabei, damit das ganze Werk nicht zu tief in die Melancholie abrutscht.
Über allem schwebt natürlich die unverkennbare Stimme von Michael Stipe, die seinen Songs eine introspektive Tiefe gibt.
Out of Time ist meiner Ansicht nach ein sehr emotionales Album, bei dem man spürt, dass unter aller Melancholie, die wir zu hören bekommen, viel Energie liegt.

Quicksand is back, and all is right(ish) with the world again.

As a lifelong devotee of this amazing band, I could not be happier with Bring On The Psychics.

Walter is still at the top of his game songwriting-wise, the guitars are still dope as hell, and it feels like they’ve found a comfortable groove in their old age.

They’re not looking back at Slip or Manic Compression; still being in the NOW as well as pushing forward, as opposed to trying to replicate those touchstone records.

This is the third album since they’ve reunited, and ALL three have been fucking fantastic.

It’ll be a sad day when Quicksand call it a day for good.

Quite frankly, one of the worst, MOST HORRIBLE albums ever made.
If the survival of millions of kids depended on me making it through this abysmal dryhump, then I’m sorry, millions of kids are going to die.

A lot of people try to stand up for this album and say it’s parody or satire, but those people are morons.
I AINT BUYING IT.
It’s just plain awful, period.

I was in my basement going through some “get rid of” boxes, just double checking if it was all worth getting rid of.
I pulled this out because I wanted to see if it was as reprehensible as I remember.

Turns out…

I went downtown to pick up a few extra things before I leave for Boston in 12 hours, and saw a nice used copy of this that I couldn’t turn down.

It’s in immaculate shape, and I’ve been looking for an early-ish copy with the original cover for quite sometime.
I bought a recent reissue with that awful blue alternate cover, and I was never pleased with how it sounded.
Now I can replace it.

Autobahn is one of those albums I can just throw on at any time on any day and be happy. I’ve loved it ever since the early 90s.
It was the first song AND album I ever heard by Kraftwerk, and it was my gateway drug into appreciating a very different kind of music.
My love for it will never wane.

I went down to my local shop today and saw that they had the rest of their RSD shipment delivered to them (better late than never I guess), and grabbed a few more titles while I could.

THIS is for hardcore Lanegan fans only.
This is essentially “work in progress” versions of what would become Bubblegum; mostly Lanegan’s original demos, alternate mixes, scaled back instrumentations, and mostly without guest appearance overdubs.

It’s an interesting companion to an already weird album. If you love Mark’s music, particularly Bubblegum, this is a fascinating listening experience of a captivating artist at work.
