    Hi Guys
    1975 U.S. pressing

    Yes!!! 😂
    Finally!
    Grail acquired!
    Achievement unlocked 🔓 🏆!!

I have been looking for this ridiculous record for well over two decades.

Not rare, not expensive, maybe not even sought after by anybody BUT me.
However, I had never seen one ever. And I never could just order it online, because I couldn’t justify spending 6x more than what the record was worth in shipping to get it to me.

Today, I finally saw one, and I was more than happy forking over $2 in the good name of Judge Smails for it.

This is without a doubt my favorite celebrity album of all time.
It is essentially a comedy album, albeit it a musical one.

It’s just one of those “so stupid it’s brilliant” albums, from one of the most underrated and funny dudes of all time.
You couldn’t get away with some of these songs today.

It’s time for the ole Billy Baroo.

  11. THE MURDER CAPITAL
    When I Have Fears
    2019 UK & Ireland pressing

Man, do I love this record.
    I can’t believe it’s already 7 years old.

    44 SUPER-intense, hard-hitting minutes.
Calling this and lumping it in with other modern #postpunk music seems a bit disrespectful.
Because along with the abrasive guitars, thick bass and pounding drums comes a little more atmosphere, tension and claustrophobia.
No doubt a result of the involvement of the albums producer: the legendary Flood.

A spacious, heavy, and emotional record that still sounds as impactful and exciting seven years on.
    Just a truly excellent album.

    Start with “Green And Blue”.
If you like that, soldier further.

  14. THE POSIES
    Blood/Candy
    2010 U.S. pressing

Continuing to plow through my finds from yesterday in Victoria.

It’s beyond unfortunate that all that stuff happened with Ken Stringfellow.

    And particularly heartbreaking for ME.
The Posies meant an AWFUL lot to me when I was a kid, & despite all of the allegations against him, they still are.
    Particularly Frosting On The Beater.

Jon and Ken made beautiful music together, and it was a shame to see it all end (rightfully so, probably) and have Jon decide that their friendship was over (again, rightfully so).

However, I will never let those things affect my love for the music they made together.
If you’re that kind of person, go throw your Zeppelin, Floyd, Elvis, Beatles and Who records in the trash too.

This is their last REALLY good record; better than a few that came before, and one that captured some of the old magic.

  16. WEEN
    12 Golden Country Greats
    2026 Europe 3xLP Deluxe reissue
    30th Anniversary Remastered

I finally got my hands on this in Victoria yesterday, and I couldn’t be happier.

Don’t believe all the bullshit negative feedback about this being thrown out there online by the SAME assholes who trashed the previous reissues as well.

If you’re a Ween fan, this will make you happy.

What was actually 10 golden country greats has FINALLY become 12.
    And THEN some.

The bevy of extra material is fantastic & ULTRA brown, just how it should be.

This has always been my dark horse nominee for the best Ween album (slightly behind White Pepper).

The fact that Ween are using some of the most legendary & accomplished country musicians in music history is delicious.
And THREE of them were named Buddy. 😂
Imagine those guys hearing these tunes & being like “What the fuck…?” 😂

  20. DINOSAUR JR.
    Just Like Heaven
    1989 U.S. 12”
    Single sided.
    Etched.

What an incredibly long (but glorious) day trip today. I’m exhausted, but in the best way possible.

Found a bunch of killer records while in Victoria, of which THIS ONE is my favorite.

I tell you man… it’s been a SST kind of last few days. First with the three Screaming Trees reissues, and now with this killer Dinosaur Jr. 12” single for their killer cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”.

And that etching on the flip side is fucking beautiful!

There not much from Dinosaur Jr. that I don’t have, but I did not have this.
Ecstatic to find one for dirt cheap.

  28. SCREAMING TREES
    Invisible Lantern
    2024 U.S. reissue

    Last spin of the night.

    More Trees!

I found this on CD and posted it a few weeks back, and then BOOM 💥! This vinyl reissue (along with two other SST Trees albums were in my local shop.

Of all the Screaming Trees SST releases, I think THIS is the one that SOUNDS the worst.
Which is really too bad, cuz these songs are awesome.

And I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad pressing. It’s just kind of always sounded kinda shitty. It’s really muddy and too bass heavy. And to my ears, the CD is kind of the same.
I’m hoping that one day, they re-mix and remaster these early albums, but I’m certainly not holding my breath.

Still a very good album, if you can get over the sub-par production quality.

  30. THE GLASS CAGE
    Where Did The Sunshine Go?
    2026 Canada pressing
    Green vinyl

One of the more wonderful musical stories of the past few years, and thanks to my good friend Jason Flower, this incredible record has finally seen the light of day, 60 years later.

Back in ‘68, in the town I now live on Vancouver Island, some young teens cut an acetate at the Nanaimo Sewing Centre of incredible #garage #Psych songs.

The band didn’t go anywhere, and the tape was lost.
Until Marcus Pollard found it in a thrift store between Port Alberni and Tofino.

He didn’t know what it was, WHO it was… nothing.

He posted about it, dug deep, until an actual member of the band replied to the post.
    Zoom in and read it.

My pal Jason at Supreme Echo (also the name of his wonderful store), then put it out after lovingly & meticulously bringing it back to life.

    Great record, great story.

  32. SLOAN
    The Double Cross
    2026 Canada Ltd. Edition reissue

MY favorite album by my good friends Sloan.

It’s rare that I think a band’s best album comes this late in their career, but in the case of The Double Cross, it’s true.

I love and adore every single song in this album. It’s pure perfect #powerpop front to back, and I’m especially fond of “Unkind”; a song SO perfect, that I think if it came out in the #80s , it would have been inescapable and massive.

As a side note, you’d be hard pressed to find better dudes, too.
    Especially Chris Murphy.

The most humble and laid back of all pop architects.

    Such a great album.

  38. SCREAMING TREES
    Even If And Especially When
    2024 U.S. reissue

Their second album overall, but their FIRST for SST Records.

If all you know is the latter day Screaming Trees albums from the #90s (Sweet Oblivion, Dust), then hearing the SST material comes as quite a shock.

This is a far more raw and PSYCHEDELIC brand of Trees. It’s rough, garage-y, a bit unrefined, and legendary frontman Mark Lanegan’s signature deep and weathered vocal is not there yet.

It was THESE kinds of records that made them well-known heroes in the underground. The band went through their paces for years honing their craft, and when “Seattle/Grunge Mania” happened six years later, they already had FIVE records under their belt.

This album’s opener “Transfiguration” is one of my all time favorite Trees tunes. It’s so gnarly and in your face.
    Siked to finally have this.

  40. PHOTOGENIX
    Photogenix
    1983 Canada 12” E.P.
    @ #45rpm

First spin from the pile of today’s finds goes to the shortest one.

    A great little 4-song #newwave #postpunk -y E.P. from Montreal’s Photogenix.

This appears to be the band’s only official release. A self-produced E.P.
Apparently, at the time, Montreal’s pop scene was overrun with major-label economics. So this recording garnered some attention for being so independent and sounding SO good.

    Great little 4-pack of songs.

  42. Great little haul of records today!

A wonderful day of being out in the sun, and the first day I’ve truly felt myself after coming down with that nasty flu last few weeks.

Super happy with ALL of these, especially the reissues of the early SST Screaming Trees stuff.

  44. GERRY RAFFERTY
    Baker Street
    1978 France 7” single

A quick little spin during breakfast. 🥞
I found this at a thrift store late yesterday afternoon.
Picture sleeve is perfect, vinyl condition is perfect.

Who doesn’t like a little “Baker Street”?

It’s just such a great tune.
One of the most instantly recognizable saxophone riffs maybe ever (courtesy of the great Raphael Ravenscroft), which is why I loathe and despise the Foo Fighters version, as the sax is replaced by an electric guitar.

If I were being honest, I’d say I hate the Foo Fighters in general.

    Anyway, an absolute masterpiece tune.
You know it’s part of the fabric of culture when The Simpsons uses it.
    TWICE!

  46. RAY LYNCH
    Deep Breakfast
    1984 U.S. pressing

A perfect late night spin, and one of my three favorite #ambient / #newage records ever.

I first heard this WAAAY back in the mid 90s.
I was visiting my best friend’s house for the first time, and upon entering his house, I saw a giant pile of CDs on a side table.

    “These yours?”, I asked him.
“Nah, man. Those are my Dad’s.”

I noticed most of it. A lot of classic rock, some folk stuff, Simon and Garfunkel…etc.

Then I saw THIS in there.
I had never heard of Ray Lynch before, so I was intrigued.

    “Dude, what’s this about?”

“I don’t know man. Let’s throw it on.”

I was hooked from the very first track “Celestial Soda Pop”, which apparently, early #80s NPR used as a theme song for one of their shows back then.

    Just a beautiful album.

Dan’s father never saw that cd again. 🤷

  47. It’s that time of year where I have to starting culling down some of my music library; whether it be vinyl, CDs, or anything else.

Now that this awful summer flu I had seems to be gone, I can start. And everything starts in the basement.

I’m going to start with the CDs first because believe me, it’s going to be the easiest.

All of the CDs that were down there have now been brought upstairs, and added to what’s already been up here.

These represent the NON-boxset discs, and have (with the exception of about 30 CDs) all been alphabetized to make this process easier.

I notice right away that there are doubles of a few things, as well as some things I no longer have a need to own.

All the box sets are staying put, so once I’m done with THESE, it’s time for the true nightmare of dealing with the vinyl.
