A really charming #indie pop record on a really nice Autumn evening.

LAPD consists of one Ryan Pollie, a super talented singer songwriter who wields really warm pop arrangements, really intimate sounding acoustic guitars, with flourishes of some psych-y strings.
It’s a little more elaborate than his home-recorded bedroom album that preceded it. By far more lush sounding, with a little more emotional depth.

A very melancholic listening experience, and at 36 minutes, a perfect record for a mellow Sunday night in the Fall.

Was delighted to see this in the new arrivals bin downtown today, and I literally lunged at it when I saw it.

A masterpiece of jangly, melodic #powerpop about love under pressure, with a more shadowy, melancholy underneath.

Extremely sophisticated songcraft by two very different (but equally brilliant) dudes in Robert Forster and Grant McLennan.

I first heard this via the song “Love Goes On”, which a female friend of mine put on a mixtape that she gave me in the mid-90s.
I always loved that song, but it took me AT LEAST another year to start fully exploring the rest of 16 Lovers Lane, as well as the rest of their catalog.
But THIS was the first one I heard, and it is by far their greatest masterstroke.

The self-titled first solo album is one of my all time favorite albums period. A jazzy, intimate #indie pop masterpiece.
From there, he has done nothing but grow record to record, pushing the boundaries out a little further each time.

Since Old Punch Card, he has slowly mastered his synthesizers, making beautiful, lush, #ambient sounding music.

Comma is rhythmically sophisticated, but still very comfortable and accessible sounding, with NO vocals to be found.
Beautiful music.

Having a lovely Saturday afternoon with The Floyd.

This is probably the Pink Floyd recording that I’ve listened to the most in my life, and by that measurement, I guess you could call it my favorite Floyd record period, which I’d be ok with.

Meant to whet people’s appetites between Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, it’s got all the killer early singles on it, b-sides, soundtrack recordings from More, and the previously unreleased ‘69 track “Biding My Time”.
It’s the most satisfying front-to-back Floyd record there is, and as much as I love from DSOTM on, there’s nothing that holds a candle to the earlier stuff.

Lastly, I’m not a huge fan of “alternate covers” of things, but in THIS particular case, this has always been my favorite of this album’s numerous variants.
