Something I’ve never been able to understand.The suite on Side A does suffer some. Experimental artist Ron Geesin (who had worked with Waters previously on The Body), was hired to help tie the suite together with an orchestral arrangement.
The EMI Pops Orchestra (being anal “by the book” musicians who needed detailed direction) clashed with Geesin’s “avant-garde-ness” and lack of interest in established classical approaches.
So much so, John Alldis had to conduct them instead, to help avoid physical confrontation with Geesin.I love all the individual tracks on the second side, particularly “Summer ‘68” and “Fat Old Sun”.
Very solid, & not at all deserving of the hate it gets.
Certainly better than Ummagumma. 😂
