Even in the last couple years, I still see some advocates thinking that *more* local surveillance is a good thing. Like they don't understand how the technology works, who all has access to it, and how it can be abused for even worse purposes than what they imagined they were protecting against.

(apologies for the Instagram link)It's important to note that despite the fact that Mayor Wilson mentions #oversight in the same breath as body cameras, no civilian oversight body exists in #Somerville at this time, and creating one will likely take years.

Update: On July 23rd, the Mayor introduced a new version of the STIR and TSSUP for police #bodycameras in #Somerville. The new documents clarify a number of policy points, but don't substantively address the concerns we've highlighted in our toolkit above.

This was Eli "Paperboy" Reed's debut LP in 2008, originally on Q Division out of Somerville MA (and recorded at their studios). Great "blue-eyed" soul in the spirit of the Dap Tones. Not sure if he needed "Paperboy" because there's already an Eli Reed (a photographer and journalst) or because he just liked the notion that he delivers.
