I love figure 4 here modernismmodernity.org/forums/posts... Somehow I hadn't realised the extent to which modernism was an attempt to get Germans to accept being a LOT poorer after WWI, which is part of why Hitler got so much political milage from rejecting it.

“Alles Ist Moglich” -- "Everything is possible".
Sadly, what is now possible is that extreme right politicians will use the language of Hitler and the NSDAP* to wage culture war in Germany.
Hans-Thomas Tillschneider** with his sounding off against the Bauhaus would have been dismissed as a crank twenty years ago. That such people are now coming to power is frightening.
Of course, here in the USA these people are already in power, and showing that their culture war, such as that being waged against the Smithsonian, is all of a piece with the lawless and lethal violence unleashed on the streets of the USA, in the waters of the Caribbean, and from the air over Iran.
Even though I recognize the deep roots of the extreme right in Europe, part of me still hoped that in the continent as a whole and in Germany in particular the memory of earlier horrors would squelch any re-emergence of these movements as serious contenders for power.
Obviously, that hope was misplaced; everything, alas, is possible.
* I write "NSDAP" rather than "Nazi" as I fear that in the English speaking world the latter term is losing its power to horrify .
** Tillschneider was once a member of the FDP. How common is the migration from the FDP to the AfD?

Neues von unserem Braun 62 Röhrenradio.
Das Gehäuse ist nun fertig, mit allen Fenstern.
Wir mussten noch Umbauten machen, damit man das Radio auch später nochmals herausnehmen kann.

Nun geht es los mit der Verschraubung und anschliessend wird das Furnier gesetzt.
Was man nicht direkt sieht:
Die Radioschreibe und die Bedienknöpfe werden mit grauem (echtem) Filz geschützt.

My #BandcampFriday suggestion is Social Youth Cult - "The Lighthouse" - best band I saw at Goths on a Field.
If you have any love for guitar goth / post-punk, these lot manage to do something which is reminiscent of Bauhaus, Bowie and Birthday Party without being derivative.

Weimer erklärt sich zum „Kulturkämpfer gegen die AfD". 2025 wehrte er sich noch gegen genau dieses Etikett: „Ich bin Kulturverfechter, nicht Kulturkämpfer." Ein Jahr später ist er es – nur mit umgedrehter Stoßrichtung.
Inhaltlich trägt der Bauhaus-Punkt: „Irrweg der Moderne" gegen eine von den Nazis geschlossene Schule.
Nur kündigt er im selben Interview seinen Abgang nach einer Legislatur an. Ausdauer klingt anders.

You can really tell what stuff I make with HTML in comparison to Jekyll themes because it has super-basic styling. It's not that I'm bad at making things fancy, it just ends up like that because I go "good enough" and move on. I grew up with HTML 4.01, fancy HTML 5 stuff is new to me. Only used media queries just recently. Funny how everything I make ends up Bauhaus.

1932 haben die Nazis das Bauhaus in Dessau geschlossen.
2026 nennt die AfD Sachsen-Anhalt es einen „Irrweg der Moderne", „unerträglich anzuschauen", ein Symbol der „Traditionsvernichtung".
Dieselben Gebäude. Dasselbe Feindbild. Dieselbe Logik.
Heute hat meine Tochter in der Aula des Bauhauses nach erfolgreichem Abschluss ihres Studiums die Urkunde zum Bachelor of Arts erhalten. Ich möchte, dass ihr in den kommenden Jahren und Jahrzehnten noch viele Absolventen nachahmen können, ohne sich den Vorstellungen der rechtsextremen #NoAfD beugen zu müssen.
Deswegen müssen wir alle dafür kämpfen, dass sich die Geschichte nicht wiederholt. #Alerta!

Grete Stern (1904–1999) floh 1933 als jüdische Fotografin vor den Nazis nach Argentinien. Dort schuf sie revolutionäre Traumserien und dokumentierte 1964 das Leben indigener Gemeinschaften im Gran Chaco mit etwa 1.500 würdevollen Porträts. Ihre Arbeiten gelten heute als erste große Sozialdokumentation der argentinischen Fotogeschichte und wecken bei den abgebildeten Gemeinschaften bis heute persönliche Erinnerungen. #Fotografie #Bauhaus #Argentinien @bauhausmensch
