Dziś myślałem nad swoim rankingiem na Lichess i zastanawiałem się, czemu ranking ELO nie jest bardziej popularny w innych sportach. Moim zdaniem to jedna z najbardziej sprawiedliwych form oceny poziomu umiejętności zawodnika.

No i okazuje się, że ranking na Lichess to nie ELO tylko Glicko-2, czyli pewna wariacja, udoskonalony ranking ELO, który uwzględnia także częstotliwość grania.

W skrócie - chodzi o to, żeby ranking zmieniał się szybciej/wolniej w zależności od tego jak dawno graliśmy i jak bardzo niestabilny jest nasz ranking.

Czyli jeśli dawno nie graliśmy - nasz ranking rośnie/spada o większą wartość niż gdy gramy regularnie, pozwala to dużo szybciej szacować rzeczywisty poziom danego zawodnika. Ma to na celu wykluczenie sytuacji, kiedy ranking zawodnika jest "zamrażany" i skrócenie czasu, kiedy ranking różni się znacząco od rzeczywistych umiejętności.

Np. w moim przypadku - ileś tam lat nazad udało mi się wbić ELO. Od tego czasu nie grałem i gram wyraźnie słabiej. Gdybym teraz wziął udział w jakimś turniej, choćbym przegrał wszystkie partie, mój ranking nie spadłby drastycznie i dalej byłby wyższy niż moje rzeczywiste umiejętności. W przypadku Glicko-2 mój ranking spadłby dużo wyraźniej.

Dlaczego tak istotne jest urealnianie rankingów?

Bo w turniejach szachowych paruje się zawodników m.in. na podstawie rankingów, a same rankingi ustala się na podstawie tego, jakie rankingi mieli gracze przeciwko którym gramy.

To jest bardzo ciekawy temat, dla mnie jest sporym zaskoczeniem, że gdzieś w międzyczasie ELO było "ulepszane" i że jest mniej sprawiedliwe niż przypuszczałem.
