ELO’s version is 50 fuckin years old this year but you’d never know it (it was written by Jeff Lynne in ‘71 when he was with The Move). This particular mix gives me a chance to do some karaoke shenanigans in the middle here on deck.

"Telephone Line" is a song by English rock band #ElectricLightOrchestra (ELO). It was released in May 1977 through #JetRecords and #UnitedArtistsRecords as part of the album #ANewWorldRecord. It was commercially successful, topping the charts of #Canada and #NewZealand and entering the top 10 in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

"Livin' Thing" is a song written by #JeffLynne and performed by #ElectricLightOrchestra (ELO). It appears on ELO's 1976 album #ANewWorldRecord and was also released as a single. Patti Quatro sang uncredited vocals, particularly the "higher and higher" parts. The original single had "#FireOnHigh" on the flip side, a tune that became the band's most popular instrumental piece.

Friday nighty night jam: shortly after I first heard this tune (my favorite from these guys) on the radio ELO hosted “The Midnight Special” which, in 1977, aired late night Saturdays on NBC after “Saturday Night Live.” It’s kinda surreal seeing this again almost 50 years later.

A very pleasant 58 degrees on deck with some tea, what I would consider a … healthy pour of Bulleit Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and some ELO to kick things off.

#ANewWorldRecordWell I
Heard the crowd singin' out of tune
As they sat and sang Auld Lang Syne by the light of the moon
I heard the preachers bangin' on the drums
And I heard the police playin' with their guns
But I
Never heard nothin' like you -

This evening’s “live” selection: Jeff Lynne will be 77 in December and if you haven’t heard, the current incarnation of ELO begins the U.S. leg of what he’s calling the “Over And Out Tour” in late August. One of the stops is Minneapolis. I may have to be there.
