One of the 1st truly great albums of the #2000s , regardless of genre.

A warm, funky, organic neo-soul record for the ages.
It fits right next to Deangelo’s Voodoo, & to be honest, it’s hard for me to hear THIS album without immediately wanting to put Voodoo on next.

If you want total freedom in life, then you gotta leave a lot of shit behind.
How willing are you to let things go?
How free do you wanna be?

These are the questions I was forced to think about when I first heard this record when I was 23 and living in NYC.

The bass and drums on this record will always be my favorite thing about it, ESPECIALLY the drums.

They’re kinda dusty, dull-edged, but still very dynamic and human sounding.

Just an incredible 72 minutes.

Hello Fedizens, I wasn't planning on more #physicalmedia today, but I popped into my local CEX.

Upgraded my copy of Ghostbusters into 4K for £12. A quick test and the image is nice, a little extra detail but surprisingly noisy film stock.

They also had Ghostbusters II but I wasn't paying £28(!!) for that!

Also, surprise bonus! My wife chose a new coat from Asda, priced at £38. When we scanned at the checkout (and doubled checked) it went through at £16.99. Woohoo!

I decided to give this Sharp Pins record (which was in a used bin) a try, as over the last month, more than a few people told me I’d e joy it, and because I liked the small sample of stuff I tried online.

Really cool #lofi #indie #alternative pop that is a total “one man gang” effort by Chicago musician/artist Kai Slater.

This was recorded at both his home and personal studio in Chicago, and reminds me so much of the scruffy indie #90s music I grew up on, but there’s something extra here.
It’s also more jangly and #powerpop -ish than it is slacker rock. Along with the Sebadoh & Pavement vibes, there’s some Guided By Voices, some Beatles, even a little British Invasion shit.

Really cool record. 💥

Hellboy (4K) from CEX because the eBay auction I was watching became more expensive. Watched the first ten minutes, looks awesome! (Reviews say Hellboy 2 isn't much of an upgrade, so I'll stick to the bluray)

Also found on eBay, The Mummy Trilogy (4K) for £10, just the discs. Bargain.

Finally, after watching Coyote vs Acme, I got a little emotional at the end. I needed my own to hug. 😁 I'm 50! 🤣

Night of the Juggler (1980) is exactly why physical media preservation matters.

A terrific James Brolin NYC thriller that spent years ridiculously difficult to see properly has now been restored in 4K by Radiance/Transmission.

An unusually LATE late-night (or in this case EARLY MORNING) spin.

Been having real trouble sleeping the last few weeks (for reasons far too boring to get into here), so I’m continuing my “rediscovery” of the latter-day, more #ambient Sam Prekop records with The Sparrow.

There were only 700 vinyl copies of this record made; a very quiet, abstract, melodic album birthed from Prekop’s modular #synthesizer .
It’s reminiscent of Eno’s ambient albums in that it’s very warm & atmospheric, with no vocals, & more of a sense of sound and environment than traditional “songs”.

There’s only 5 songs, but the album’s opening title track clocks in at just over 17 minutes, setting a tone for a very inviting & gentle listening experience.

“Every Night” is my favorite track here, for HOW gentle it is, like a song from a child’s mobile.

One of my favorite bands of the last ten years.
I absolutely adored their first record Dead Meat, which is a stone cold banger, and was hands down my favorite album of 2023.

Since then, their following two albums (Cotton Crown, THIS), have kept the excellent standard going.
Scruffy, jangly irresistible songcraft.

I placed a special order through my local shop for a vinyl copy of Cotton Crown, which frustratingly, still hasn’t shown up.
Once I procure that, I’ll have all of em.

If you’re unfamiliar with The Tubs, please give them a chance.

They’re a band with tons of heart, soul, and great songs.
A great band to root for.

I’m hoping they stick around for quite some time.
