CW: Grotesque metal album covers
Getting back into CDs got me browsing online thrift stores, my local flea market and of course ebay, but one of the weirdest purchases was a "surprise box liquidation" of 10 death/black metal albums (actually 12 were included) for just 12 euros.
I was kind of expecting to get scammed, but the reviews were positive, and then the package arrived with what's on the picture.

Again, it's not the digital media people should fight, but rather the licensing problem. As long people still buy licenses happily, the ownership problem will never go away.

Bookstores with music sections used to have listening stations. In the CD era, you would pick up the packaged CD, put on the headphones and put the item under a barcode scanner which would then start playing the album on the headphones. I wonder if there is an app for that, now. It would be handy to scan barcodes with your phone camera and hear a CD before you bought it, since I haven't seen a store with a proper listening station in ages.

Somehow, I never came across this comic before, even as I've begun amassing my collection. It's delightful. And from 2012, so even somewhat prescient!
Ironically, it first came to my attention after someone posted it in Discord, and others started arguing about whether it was correct and dismissing it as reductive. They seemed oblivious to the satire, instead responding to it as a serious argument.

It’s beyond unfortunate that all that stuff happened with Ken Stringfellow.
And particularly heartbreaking for ME.
The Posies meant an AWFUL lot to me when I was a kid, & despite all of the allegations against him, they still are.
Particularly Frosting On The Beater.Jon and Ken made beautiful music together, and it was a shame to see it all end (rightfully so, probably) and have Jon decide that their friendship was over (again, rightfully so).
However, I will never let those things affect my love for the music they made together.
If you’re that kind of person, go throw your Zeppelin, Floyd, Elvis, Beatles and Who records in the trash too.This is their last REALLY good record; better than a few that came before, and one that captured some of the old magic.

If you’re a Ween fan, this will make you happy.
What was actually 10 golden country greats has FINALLY become 12.
And THEN some.The bevy of extra material is fantastic & ULTRA brown, just how it should be.
This has always been my dark horse nominee for the best Ween album (slightly behind White Pepper).
The fact that Ween are using some of the most legendary & accomplished country musicians in music history is delicious.
And THREE of them were named Buddy. 😂

I've enjoyed a lot of bands, thousands of them, over the years. What do I go back to?
Aside: I had over 1000 albums saved in Spotify, when I was using that, but I lost that list when I left the service. Before you jump down my throat, I own like 200+ albums on bandcamp because I like to support artists, and 200 or so CDs and a small, but growing selection of cassette tapes.
Answer: In decreasing order: #cassettes > #CDs > old #mp3 collection > #bandcamp purchases > #streaming.

Found a bunch of killer records while in Victoria, of which THIS ONE is my favorite.
I tell you man… it’s been a SST kind of last few days. First with the three Screaming Trees reissues, and now with this killer Dinosaur Jr. 12” single for their killer cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”.
And that etching on the flip side is fucking beautiful!
There not much from Dinosaur Jr. that I don’t have, but I did not have this.

I found this on CD and posted it a few weeks back, and then BOOM 💥! This vinyl reissue (along with two other SST Trees albums were in my local shop.
Of all the Screaming Trees SST releases, I think THIS is the one that SOUNDS the worst.
Which is really too bad, cuz these songs are awesome.And I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad pressing. It’s just kind of always sounded kinda shitty. It’s really muddy and too bass heavy. And to my ears, the CD is kind of the same.
I’m hoping that one day, they re-mix and remaster these early albums, but I’m certainly not holding my breath.Still a very good album, if you can get over the sub-par production quality.
