  1. TV ON THE RADIO
    Return To Cookie Mountain
2023 UK, EUROPE & US reissue

Some apple pancakes 🥞 and TV On The Radio for breakfast.

It was a magical thing experiencing this band in real time as they came up in the early 2000’s, and it didn’t take long for everyone in NY to understand that these dudes were THE SHIT.

    Even David Bowie thought so.
So much that he agreed to appear on this absolute masterpiece (see: “Province”). He is here strictly as a fan, and nothing more.

This whole record is outstanding, but it is centred around one of the gnsrliest, most badass signature rock songs of the past 20 years in “Wolf Like Me”, a savage, visceral experience that has never lost a bit of its edge, even 2 decades later.

Those shows I saw were astonishing.

I remember hearing about Gerard Smith dying of lung cancer.
    Not a good day.

Incredible band that means a lot to me.

Netflix has notoriously been avoidant of theatres and phys-media. But there are exceptions.

  4. CW: Warning: Controversial Album Cover!

    UNSANE
    Unsane
    2022 U.S. reissue

One of the most primitive and abrasive #NoiseRock albums ever, and a totally underrated #90s classic.

It’s punk, it’s industrial, it’s hardcore, it’s noise, it’s whatever you wanna file it under.
Regardless of label, it’s badass under any of those definitions.

This is also the only Unsane album featuring original drummer Charlie Ondras, who died of a heroin overdose in NYC two months after this came out.

Equally as notable is the cover, which is a honest-to-god legitimate photo of a decapitated corpse lying across New York subway tracks, courtesy of a friend of the band’s who was closely involved in investigating that scene.

If you don’t like gritty, abrasive music, then this is definitely not for you.
If you do, this is an essential and unique landmark.
    Strictly for the adventurous.

  5. DINOSAUR JR.
    There Near
    2026 U.S. pressing
    Translucent Pink vinyl

And day you get a new Dino record is a GREAT day, and as always, one of the greatest bands of all time have not disappointed.

I just don’t understand how they keep doing it.
Since reuniting 20 years ago, they have continued to put out STELLAR records that are 100% on par with the pre ious records, regardless of which lineup you’re talking about.

    This record sounds savage.
But then again, what else would you expect?

J MASCIS belongs on the Mount Rushmore of guitar players.
I don’t think you can even argue that at this point.

PROTECT DINOSAUR JR. AT ALL COSTS.

  6. DOLLY PARTON
    The Hits Of Dolly Parton
    1976 Canada pressing

    Still reeling from today’s news.
    😢 💔

I’ll be listening to a LOT of Dolly over the next few days, I imagine. I’m starting with this, which I blind pulled from my vast Dolly section.

My mother was the 2nd youngest of 15 (!) kids.
EVERY single one of my Aunts and Uncles LOVED real country music (not the shit they’ve passed off as country over the last 40 years), and growing up, Dolly was just always on.
Didn’t matter whose house I went to.
I fell in love with her early.

Then, I saw 9 to 5, & learned she was also VERY funny, and a very good actress.

Further down the road, whilst living in NYC in 2000, I got to spend a magical half hour with her.

She was one of the kindest, loving and wonderfuly warm people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.

The world is a little worse off today.

  7. LLOYD COLE AND THE COMMOTIONS
    Rattlesnakes
    1984 Canada pressing

Back in the abode for last spin of the night.

    A pretty great #alternative #newwave #poprock from our favorite distant galaxy, the #80s .

A masterclass in songwriting, particularly the song “Perfect Skin”, which Cole gives complete credit to Bob Dylan.

Cole overdosed on Bob during recording, and in a lot of spots, it’s apparent.
But Cole is not some Dylan clone.

He has a very distinct individual approach, particularly with the lyrics, which are very literate; with nods to Norman Mailer and Renata Adler (see “Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?” and “Speedboat”, respectively).

Which makes sense seeing Cole studied English and Philosophy at the University Of Glasgow.
The songs are FULL of those kind of literary & cultural references & intellectual humor.
A wonderful debut 35 minutes from a great songwriter.

  8. MOTHER LOVE BONE
    Apple
    2025 Europe reissue
    Orange Opaque [Habanero] vinyl

Was thinking about Andy Wood today, which drove me to throwing this on.

When I was 13/14 in 1991, and the Pearl Jam, Temple Of The Dog, and #seattle #grunge thing was happening, I was unaware of MLB.

My crash course (much like most kids my age) was through the soundtrack to the movie Singles, and the epic song “Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns”.

    This whole album is incredible.
“Stardog Champion” fucking rules, and “Man Of Golden Words” made its way onto many mix CDs I made for friends. The “Crown Of Thorns” here is missing the “Chloe Dancer” front end.
For the version on Singles, check out the Shine E.P..

It’s a sad thing, what happened with Andy Wood.
    What a talent.
But this record is HIS legacy.
    Forever legendary.

And without IT, we get no Pearl Jam, and no Temple.

  9. PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION
    Parade
    1986 Canada pressing

Was in the mood for some Prince on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.
A blind Prince pull produced Parade.

A perfect example of a VERY good soundtrack to a REALLY awful movie.
This (with the exception of maybe Singles) has to be the gold standard.

Acting as the soundtrack to the repugnant film Under The Cherry Moon, this has a bevy of killer tunes on it, particularly the final three tracks.

Even if you dislike everything that comes before (why would you?), the run of “Kiss”, “Anotherloverholenyohead”, and “Sometimes It Snows In April” alone make Parade worth owning.

    The movie though?
Find a DVD copy, take a huge dump on it, then catapult it into the hot August sun.
If you can prove to me you’ve watched it all, I’ll give you $400.
(Checks will not be honored) 😂

  10. RICHARD AND LINDA THOMPSON
    Shoot Out The Lights
    1982 Canada pressing

Another one I haven’t listened to start to finish in a long time.

I first learned of Richard Thompson through my absolute hero Bob Mould, who did a savage live cover version of “Shoot Out The Lights” (from the Cabaret Metro in Chicago) on his POISON YEARS compilation that I drilled into the ground as a kid.

For years, I thought it was a Bob song, and when I found out it was a cover, instantly sought out THIS album, and started to explore Richard’s music.

THIS is still the gold standard of his catalog for me, with MIRROR BLUE running a close second.

  11. THE MEN THEY COULDNT HANG
    Night Of A Thousand Candles
    1985 UK pressing

A Sunday morning spin of some #folk -y psychobilly #punk country from London in the #80s .

I bought this blind from a cheap bin while I was visiting a friend in Atlanta, Georgia around 2018.
We were killing some time before going to a Braves game, and I found this fun little record store in The Battery.

This was their first record, and it’s got more than a little bit of a Pogues-y vibe to it (albeit less loose and sloppy-sounding), which is probably why I like it so much.
Celtic/English folk with punk energy, it’s a very English sounding working-class kind of record.

    Great songs, great passion.
A record I’m always happy to revisit, but haven’t in a while.

Although I do like some of their records that came after, nothing tops this one for me. It’s just REALLY good.

  12. Hi music fans !

This is your periodic reminder that I have a little storefront on Discogs with ~300 CDs, cassettes, and records. If you're a person who's still into that kind of thing (or maybe need a gift for someone who is), I hope you'll take a look. There's a little something for everyone, see genre tags below.

    Boosts are greatly appreciated.

    Happy listening !

  13. That #PSBlackout is going to be a great way to show how pathetic the public can be.

The have ~120M montly users. 100k is a drop in the ocean.

Can do that on #GTAVI launch week? Fuck no, they already preordered the $100 premium edition. 🤣

  14. The CD is finished 💿 :cyberheart_purple:

Jewel cases here, covers printed, discs pressed, now I'm sitting at home assembling every single copy by hand :neocat_sweat:

Releasing K4KUS3I entirely on my own taught me a lot: the legal side, print files, all the stuff that come with pressing a CD. And everything was made in Germany by small companies. Discs from a small pressing plant in Göttingen, covers from a small print shop in Berlin.

Honestly proud of this one. And thank you all for the support, it's wild. :neocat_heart:

  15. I kinda miss physical media on PC.

I mean, I read more the Manuals of Baldurs Gate 2 and Diablo than I probably played the games itselfs, but also loved the budget games on game magazines, with demos, songs (i remember one German PC Magazin, which was very fond of Metal Bands) and so on.

To a point, i know it's the past and with the usage of Steam, GOG and so on, and without them Indies would be much harder to get some attention or players.

But still, I kinda miss it sometimes.

  16. WOO
    It's Cosy Inside
    1989 U.S. pressing

    Ok.
    So I lied before.
THIS is last spin of the night.

A VERY mellow and VERY strange #ambient record, made by two English brothers named Mark and Clive Ives.

There’s all kinds of instrumentation on here. Synths, drum machines, acoustic guitars, clarinet, violin… it’s a kind of watery sounding #newage .

It’s a very intimate “for being at home” kind of cozy listen.

Nobody gave a shit about this back in ‘89. However, since it’s 2012, it’s become a sought after cult favorite.

For fans of warm, lo-fi ambient music.

EDIT: Holy shit! I just looked this up, and I didn’t realize how pricey they are (about $150 CAD)!
    Yikes!
