    PRINCE OF DARKNESS (1987), a lesser known horror flick by Carpenter

    If you liked GET OUT, I recommend Peele's US (2019) and NOPE (2022) [I especially enjoyed this one].

    For more horror-comedy, CABIN IN THE WOODS (2011) is fun. I really enjoyed the off beat MURDER PARTY (2007) and DAVE MADE A MAZE (2017). I was also tickled by KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM (2013).

    I can never decide which of Ari Aster's HEREDITARY (2018) or MIDSOMMAR (2019) I like more. Toni Collette and Florence Pugh give amazing performances.

    IT FOLLOWS (2014), THE WITCH (2015), and LAMB (2021) are quite good. I'd include IT COMES AT NIGHT (2017), except it will get you in trouble [doggo demise].

    I enjoyed watching CANDYMAN (1992) and CANDYMAN (2021) back to back. The 2021 sequel holds together as a stand alone story and doesn't feel like a franchise film; knowing the canon isn't required. A great performance by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

    Here's something news organizations could do to stop enabling bad faith actors like Trump: stop using labels like "critics" for people who are rightly calling out political stunts.

    It's not a neutral term. It inserts an air of neutrality where none should be. The refusal of news organizations to be willing to state objective reality is one of the reasons that a Trump is possible.

    Yes, this will come with loads of criticism. The right learned years ago that they could "work the ref" and dogpile news organizations into submission by complaining about bias for ... accurately reporting facts.

    Taking those complaints as valid has just led to an endless cycle of bad faith complaints and moving the goalposts farther and farther from truthful reporting.

    (Yeah, I know I'm just shouting into the wind...)

    I really only envy the rich one thing: the peace of mind that comes from knowing that if something happens you have the money to throw at a problem.

    Money does not solve all problems -- but it sure as hell makes dealing with problems that can't be avoided much easier.

    Someone's sick? You don't have to worry about paying medical bills, affording medications, etc.

    Somebody got drunk and plowed into your car last night? Sucks, but if you have enough money, it's just a minor hassle and not a catastrophe. Call a tow truck, your insurance, and rent a car while everything gets sorted out.

    Your kid needs braces? No problem. Money.

    Kids going to college? Tuition and rent are not a problem. Visiting at will? No problem. Worrying about your kid while they're away? Sorry - you're on your own with that one... but you know you have the money to deal with most problems.

    Someone died? All the money in the world won't bring them back -- but not having to worry about, say, funeral expenses and all the financial impacts makes it easier to just deal with the grief.

    For the last month or more the new routine has been for Radar to "go to work" with me from about 8 a.m. to lunchtime in my basement office.

    He parks himself on a cushion right underneath my desk and is just the goodest boy. I find it comforting that I can just reach down and give him a pet from time to time. He seems to really like his status as a "working dog" -- he gets disappointed on weekends when he doesn't get called to go to work.

    I could not possibly hope for a better doggo. What a great little guy.

    The new rounded corners thing in Firefox seems awfully silly. What is the value in shaving off the corners of tabs, menu items, and so forth -- especially when it causes icons and text to butt up against the edges of the tabs and menus around the edges?

    I'm not a fancy UI expert or anything, and I'm certainly not going to be coming up with fantastic visual designs myself, but... why? Was this just change for the sake of change? Seems wholly unnecessary.
