  1. #smolweb #linux #bsd #freebsd Here is my honest opinion of trying to switch from Fedora to FreeBSD on a spare laptop: gemini://enemy.org/mrfusion/ra.

I am definitely impressed at what the FreeBSD ecosystem has to offer! The last time I used FreBSD daily was when the version was less than two digits long…. Unfortunately, I need sound to function due to music and occasionally zoom/teams meetings. That was the only hitch, everything else felt solid and professional. I’ll keep checking back because the fact that 99% of my software suite worked and easily accepted my configurations was beyond amazing.

Does anyone else have recommendations for a desktop BSD experience where sound just “works”?

  2. This guy’s mission is to give LLMs access to every little corner of the Internet. So there is nowhere to go to avoid them. Why?

  5. I have been exploring the Gemini space for the last few days : pretty cool !

Just people sharing their thoughts and hobbies.
It feels much more peaceful than the web (of course due to the scale).
And can be browsed from the comfort of emacs (elpher for the win :) )

I recommend taking a bit of time to explore :)

  6. @liztai You 'plug into networks' simply by listing seven blogs you read often. When everybody on the independent webs does that, that makes the network.

You use the network by noting all sites you might want to read often in an RSS reader. This defines a network which is personally yours.

  10. Michelle Barker: Little Websites Everywhere.. “Building a website feels old-fashioned these days. How many more websites do I have left in me before the old fire flickers and dies? Is snuffed out. Before making websites is no longer a viable way to earn a living? The web will change drastically within my lifetime, maybe someday soon, indeed it already has. Maybe it really will fizzle out, a […]

  12. I've updated with a new optional mouse-friendly toolbar, so it's easier to get at application commands if you're browsing away with the mouse.

I may have coined a new term today! gemini://enemy.org/mrfusion/ra . Seriously though, some people irk the fuck out of me 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  14. Considering swapping out the traditional header widget for an application command-oriented toolbar. is very keyboard-first/friendly, but sometimes it's tricker to use if you're more into your mouse. This will help.

  15. Using this library... rendering the using the builtin Markdown widget, vs converting it to and making it much more navigable. It'll be an option for the user, of course, but I'm swapping to Gemtext by default.

  16. If somebody has recommendations for content with focus on please comment or dm me. Thank you.

  18. Adding the option for richer views of Markdown and HTML to , with the option to toggle between the syntax-highlighted source view, or the rendered view (with converted-to-gemtext being the rendered view of HTML).
