Several weeks ago, the European Commission rejigged its website. Instead of directing users to follow it on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, it now directs users to Mastodon, a European platform.
The change is part of a wider European push to move away from US tech.

Hey Canadian Bluesky users!
Getting uncomfortable with Bluesky’s inevitable decline into USA corporate, private-equity, control? Now is the time to come over to the Canadian Social Web.
It is free, open, community driven, and growing fast.
There is a handy directory of Canadian spaces at TheSocialWeb.ca.
And don’t worry, you can even bridge over to Bluesky from your Canadian account so you're not out of the loop.

The Fediverse is so cool. The interoperability of ActivityPub rewards you from browsing other instances, creating server-side and personal connections differently from how we were taught to browse the social web.
At the moment I'm trying to figure out the most optimal way share content around the Fediverse, from Peertube to Mastodon in particular. How it works is kind of weird.#Fediverse #ActivityPub #Peertube #Mastodon #Interoperability #SocialWeb #Federation #Federated #FederatedSocialWeb

Like the previous article on Grassroots fediverse evolution, this is a long blog post, so I provided an article summary to be TL;DR'ed 😊

When it comes to dreaming and #vision I'd like to thank @elena who dares to #dream, and whom I quoted in my article.
And the many people who work tirelessly to foster #cohesion, increasing the connectedness of our social fabric. Cross-pollinators. In my previous blog post on Grassroots #fediverse I already genuinely thanked whom I called "the pillars grassroots standardization" @evan and @silverpill
This is such important work. In that article I make many points which are unfortunately misunderstood by people as criticism, while it is the opposite. I admire all the fabulous work people are doing and have done over the years to bring #fedi where it is today.
But I argue that to really go next-level, to #ReimagineSocial, and enter the Future of Social networking, we must be able to take more holistic approaches to glue our fragmented online spaces together, and forge a #SocialWeb that is #inclusive to more people, so they can chime in with their 2 cents of #contribution to the whole.

In some sense, you can express people as URIs, as far as their usernames.
We say @audiodude, but really the qualifier would be mastodon:@audiodude (but because all communication goes over HTTP/web dominance that's not addressable right?)

signal+username:mark55This is what FOAF was trying to do all those years ago I think.... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FOAF)

Influence is unavoidable. We only know about the world and what opinions and art exists because others tell us. We make choices re who to listen to and they make choices re what to say etc.
The question is whether that influence will be imparted upon us in good faith or in a selfish effort to manipulate us. And with most media, the money involved means it will be the latter. Only the #SocialWeb enables worldwide virality because a web of unpaid people chose to share it.

Great that you found the lists useful. There are 2 other fediverse-related list in the delightful commons initiative.

What Westerners are missing in the fight against Meta and Twitter is the Pacific-Asian (CJK, ASEAN) factor. No key persons and influential entities in the Open #SocialWeb are doing anything on this front—the largest market of Meta and Twitter.

When you maximize the ability of humans to determine what info, ideas and art gets the most attention, I think you better society as quickly as possible. I trust us to collectively manage our selfish incentives well when power is widely distributed. Fully connected while not allowing anyone to be harassed into silence, must be our goal.

In daily life, if you talk to someone, you have the right to remember what was said, right?
And if you don't possess photographic memory, you have the right to take notes, keep record, maintain a diary, yes?
And no one has the right to order you to forget your memories, or under normal circumstances to destroy your notes?
So if you have a single-person #fediverse instance, it is okay then to ignore #ActivityPub Delete requests to erase your memory of online public conversations you had with others?
