#FediHood keeps growing, and many bugs have been fixed thanks to your feedback.

Federation now works smoothly over #ActivityPub. The Nearby and Discover timelines work as intended, and push notifications are available. #E2EE still needs work to support several browsers or devices.

It is a good start. You can join this new fediverse software at https://fedihood.social

#FediHood keeps growing, and many bugs have been fixed thanks to your feedback.

Federation now works smoothly over #ActivityPub. The Nearby and Discover timelines work as intended, and push notifications are available. #E2EE still needs work to support several browsers or devices.

Mastodon has always done what is best for #Mastodon. Over the years it has received lots and lots of criticism for that. I think the criticism was unwarranted. After all any #FOSS project is totally free to do what is best for it.

The problem is more that the 'fediverse community' if you can speak of that, and esp. the #ActivityPub developer community has let Mastodon get to where it is today, and insufficiently took its own path towards maturing the open standards and technology landscape. Leaving Mastodon forever in the driver's seat. Fediverse is now shaped in Mastodon's image, as a microblogging environment.

To this day #fediverse devs are super scared to break precious "Mastodon-compatibility", not showing the way to "Fediverse-compatibility". It is even unclear what "being part of the fediverse" even means, there's no consensus here.

Anyway, this is just a rant, but my rallying cry for making consolidation impossible is:

Back to open standards! 💪

It reinforces my decision to experiment with Mastodon-compatible alternative platforms like #GoToSocial. One thing I’m really beginning to appreciate about GTS design paradigm, is that it moves the focus away from large, centralized servers to empowering folks to host their own Fediverse presence, which makes consolidation/monopolizing impossible.

Let’s say at some point dot-social, as the largest instance, decided not to federate with the rest of us anymore to ‘better manage the user experience’. Lots of people would be cut off from each other but the network effects of leaving all their contacts on dot-social would keep many of them locked in.

Anyway, just a thought. 🤷‍♂️

Moderators earn their role through good actions in their own area, and lose it through bad ones. The power stays with the users, not with big tech that puts money before moderation.

Vor gut 2,5 Monaten hatte ich ja mal Correctiv angeschrieben weil Sie keine Repräsentanz im Fediverse mehr haben. Eine Antwort habe ich nie bekommen. Ins Fediverse zurückgekehrt ist Correctiv aber auch nicht (zumindest nicht wirklich siehe unten).

Leider habe ich damals den Footer mit den Social Media Links nicht abfotografiert (und finde Ihn auch nicht in der Wayback Machine). Was mir aber auffällt: Bluesky ist wird nicht mehr aufgeführt, obwohl der Account noch bespielt wird.

Was aber wohl dazu gekommen ist ist Threads und WSocial.

Okay Threads spricht Activity Pub die meisten hier werden aber keinen Bock haben sich mit den Meta Servern zu verbinden. Aber da könnte die Strategie von Correctiv sein im Fediverse irgendwie vorhanden zu sein.

Aber das man zu WSocial.eu geht und seinen Content da ablädt. WSocial, die Geisterstadt der alternativen Social Media Landschaft wie @pallenberg es so schön recherchiert hat.

Ich finde die Situation auf jeden Fall extrem unbefriedigend und weis echt nicht warum das Fediverse von Correctiv einfach so links liegen gelassen wird. Wenn man mit WSocial wieder etwas neue bespielt kann es an mangelnden Personal Kapazitäten ja nicht liegen.

I don't understand the disdain for federating with Threads. I don't think our connection would support Meta in anyway. If anything, it highlights the power of decentralized platforms. It would also be an olive branch to people trying to leave Meta, as they would still be able to follow people who utilize Threads. Am I missing something?
