  1. Hey #GitHub, it's roughly half a year until #FOSDEM.

As a reminder, I will disable the #NAT64-based #IPv4 fallback on the default network next year. The default network will be #IPv6-only.

I do note that @Codeberg does support IPv6.

#Fosstodon is still IPV4-only, so that will be impacted.

  5. I remember asking people at the last #FOSDEM about ways to communicate by radio in case of an Internet blackout. I explored a few possibilities, but no one mentioned #mesh networks, even though I'd first heard about them more than 10 years ago from an activist friend living in Pará, near the Amazon rainforest.

A few weeks ago, I bookmarked a video on the topic. I finally watched it yesterday and discovered #Meshtastic. Since then, I've also come across #MeshCore, #Reticulum, and #atak.

When it comes to communication, we seem to enjoy creating many different approaches. I hope these communities will find ways to interoperate and communicate with each other.

  12. If you're in need of a thread-safe, native #C++, implementation of #DBus I recommend DBus-ASIO. (As seen at #FOSDEM!)

Why not proposing your talk to #Fosdem ?
It's also in Belgium (end of January, 1h talk max)

  21. @securepaul I'm overwhelmed on a daily basis by the interaction I get for the Ada & #Zangemann book translations. Mostly about Free Culture, although part of it is Free Software. You can watch the #FOSDEM talk which is filled with community anecdotes fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event

  23. @mhd @rl_dane @dougmerritt @AmenZwa @synlogic4242

Kudos for the "Kool DE" reference. From the way the millennial types respond to me _remembering_ this stuff, you'd think I was 158. It was only 3 decades ago. I own *clothing* older than KDE.

Tell me, seen any of my #FOSDEM talks? I think you'd like them.

  25. Hi @rafaelmartins @jwildeboer,
I made an even more radical experiment (installing doesn't require #root) and brought it to alpha: Seppo.mro.name #Seppo #NGI #NLNet
I held several talks, but have recordings in german only, e.g. fair.tube/w/jgF8cFw5u4K1puFNsc
    Or english #slides from #fosdem 2025: marcus.rohrmoser.name/talks/20

  27. @ShinIce @tdose @wynke @fosdem
    Look, I'm not complaining!

Please, no need to get defensive! I'm well aware that it's all volunteer work, so I am truly grateful for all you do, and for the fact that I, as a #vegan, can get a decent lunch.

    However...

I would hope, that the free and open source software community would care about our planet. And animal cruelty feasts are not helping.

What I said is how happy and grateful I am with how the @tdose volunteers made an amazing shift here.

They didn't do what was necessary, they went waaay beyond. 50% #vegetarian, 40% #vegan. If you have any compassion for animals, or our planet, that must inspire you?

I'm just hoping that there's some #fosdem volunteer somewhere out there who finds this inspiring, and decides to follow suit.

  29. Le programme du #FOSDEM de 2001 n'est pas très explicite.

  31. We launched the Sovereign Tech Challenge (“Contribute Back”) in my first month, took the #SovereignTechFellowship from concept to pilot, to now 14 new fellows, and just last month brought the #SovereignTechStandards into the world.

Last year I came up with and developed a talk called “Open Source is a Sewer,” previewing it at #FOSSBackstage before giving it at #MonkiGras (thanks @redmonk!) and @lfeurope's #OpenSourceSummit Europe. The premise: open digital infrastructure deserves the same treatment as physical infrastructure, like water and sewage systems, something governments are expected to build and maintain quietly in the background. It's not just a provocative title!

Somewhere along the way, this stopped feeling only like a job and also like being part of a community. A global group of people who care, often invisibly, about the infrastructure holding up the digital world. We see each other at events like #FOSDEM, and I'm looking forward to #UNOpenSourceWeek in a few days. 2/3

  33. [Перевод] Автоматизация SBOM в большом legacy-проекте: опыт LibreOffice и Collabora Online

Эта статья – адаптация доклада "LibreOffice and Collabora Online – how we managed to automate SBOM generation for a large legacy project", с которым Торстен Беренц выступил на конференции в 2026 году. Специально для вас мы перевели выступление и превратили его в статью, оригинал доклада на английском языке – по ссылке .

  36. #OverUnder 069 with @elena

She shares her thoughts about #FOSDEM, #Jellyfin, #Yunohost, #LEGO, and, being Italian, I have to ask her about #Pizzas.

She also replied to @daj 's question.

She recommended two #books I will definitely read.

  38. Last year at @tdose, i somewhat cornily remarked how the social dinner was a bit of a "animal cruelty feast" (only three of the ~15 dishes were plant-based). It was sufficient as a dinner, though.

My remark was noted and taken in the most positive way.

This year, (thanks @wynke), at least half of the dishes were vegetarian, probably 40% was #vegan. Amazing, and ty, ty, ty!

I believe that even @fosdem could (should?) learn from this!
