@jockr There are 2 public #Canadian #Deltachat servers that can be signed up to, here and now. One is https://toque.im, the other is https://chtml.ca.
Once one is signed up for (creating a new account doesn't require your email, phone number, name, nothing like that), the second can be added as a backup "relay" server, and it'll automatically fail over, *should the first server ever go down*.

Es lo mejor que he tocado relacionado a mensajería instantanea, realmente INSTANTANEA.
Quede totalmente enamorado con este protocolo, lo probé hoy mismo; ahora se que es realmente la mensajería instantanea, no entiendo porque carajos nunca me animé a probarlo.
Me duele admitir esto pero nada que envidiarle a #Matrix , #DeltaChat , #Signal , etc. No los reemplaza, claro, pero vamos hay que saber admitir que XMPP es una jodida belleza.
Ya había escuchado de este protocolo pero la verdad creo que me abstuve por todo lo que escuchaba, de que era muy complicado, inseguro, poco práctico y normalmente no me lo recomendaba nadie. Pero ya no más, hoy mismo me declaro fanático de XMPP.
Tendré que sacar tiempo para aprender mas sobre este protocolo, y quien sabe que en un futuro me digne a autohospedarlo.

Ho appena litigato con un medico del #CannabisMedicalCenter che mi chiedeva di inviargli dati personali, analisi e referti tramite WhatsApp.
Io: "Mi scusi, non invio dati sensibili su WhatsApp (che tra l'altro non ho). Se vuole, possiamo usare DeltaChat, che è più in linea con i miei standard di privacy."
Il medico: "Mi spiace, noi lavoriamo solo ed esclusivamente tramite WhatsApp."

I've long been fascinated by the #mesh network #reticulum & the #LXMF messaging protocol built atop it—especially for areas w/o reliable Internet, or where govt. blackouts occur. Angriff, aber als radikal-links gelesener "Avatar", der "hier!" gerufen hat, kriegst du es jetzt eben ab]
Puh. Weiß gar nicht wo ich anfangen soll.
Wenn es doch nur ein defekter Ironiedetektor wäre.. 🙄 Oder mangelndes Textverständnis.
Fürchte das Problem der "radikalen" Linken ist wesentl. schwerwiegender, denn wirklich radikal ist sie bestenfalls in der Theorie.
Während die radikale Rechte schon nach dem Gewaltmonopol greift, den Rest-Widerstand mit Bot-Armeen klein redet, mit SLAPP-Klagen mundtot macht, internat. Netzwerke für jeden Aspekt ihrer Ideologie, von strateg. Think-Tanks, über Terrorismus-Supply & Recruitment bis hin zur "arischen Dating-Platform" unterhält, und die Drecksarbeit an stochast. motivierte Weirdos outsourct - kurz: jede (auch) techn. Neuerung - für sich zu nutzen weiß, verharrt die "radikale Linke" mental und faktisch irgendwo zw. 80er- Blac Bloc Tactics bei Demos und 90er Webring -jetzt auch mit Wordpress!- im Netz.
Und wenn dann junge, intelligente und offensichtl. verzweifelte #AntifaOst auf die - ehrbare aber leider echt blöde - Idee kommen in Baseballschlägerjahre-Manier nicht nur spurenreiche Hausbesuche zu veranstalten, sondern in maßloser Selbstüberschätzung auch noch den aktuell größten Naziaufmarsch Europas mitten im Feindesland Orban-Ungarn frontal anzugreifen, dann ist das Geheule so groß wie der rechts-autoritäre Backlash hart ist.
Jo mei, hat ja niemand kommen sehen, dass sich insbesondere sächs. Repressionsorgane bestenfalls formell an die Regeln halten, dazu brauchte es ja zwingend ein paar Märtyrer*innen, die das unter Beweis stellen, was?
Denn anstatt mal irgendwas wirklich Progressives auf die Beine zu stellen, gibt das der radikalen Linken doch eine großartige Gelegenheit ihrem Lieblingshobby nach zu gehen: Der Beschäftigung mit sich selbst.
Alleine, dass du aus meinen Beiträgen herauslesen willst, dass ich die #GLS für eine "linksradikale Bastion" halte, sagt mehr über deinen als über meinen Standpunkt aus, und ist Ausdruck eines linken Konservatismus, der seit (gefühlt, d.h. meiner pers. E.n.) konsequent *jeden* techn. und sozialen Anschluss lustvoll verpasst (und verliert), und sich heute die Augen reibt, warum die Rechten so erfolgreich sind, und selbst ehem. tief-rotes Arbeiter*innen-Milieu überwiegend Blaun wählt.
Der CCC, in den 90ern noch Speerspitze der techn. substit. Subversion, ist -mehr o. weniger - zu einem staatstragenden Beraterstab verkommen, in dessen Blase bestenfalls noch Individuen mit spannenden Hacks zu glänzen wissen.
Als das #Torproject in den OOern als Reaktion auf Zensur den Onion-Router kreierte, blieb eine breite linke Adaption aus. Ergebnis: Anstatt dass jeder größere Antifa-Thresen einen VPS als Exit-Node betreibt, sind es heute die Geheimdienste, die sich das TOR-Netzwerk zu eigen machen.
Es hat nicht mal geholfen mit Torservers.net/Zwiebelfreunde e.V. ein mundgerechtes techn. und jurist. Framework anzubieten. Mangels Interesse & kollektiver Verantwortungsübernahme blieben Arbeit und finanz. Belastung solange an Individuen hängen, bis sie und damit das Projekt ausgebrannt waren.
Funfact: Jedes links-radikale HowTo empfiehlt zwar nach wie vor die Nutzung von TOR, aber Networking und Mobilisierung finden größtenteils wo statt?
Auf 💯 % vollüberwachten Plattformen der Fascho- und Völkermord-Enabler wie META/ #Instagram.

Von welcher "radikalen" Linken reden wir also? 🧐
Gut, wo soll die #Medienkompetenz auch herkommen? Wenn die Alten schon vor 20 J. zu bräsig waren sich neue Technologie anzueignen, sie mitzubestimmen und Best-Practices als Standards zu etablieren, da findet eben auch kein generationenübergreifender Wissenstransfer statt.
Von alten, weißen Männern wie mir lassen sich junge FLINTA* heute jedenfalls schon aus Prinzip nix sagen, da fehlt es an Identifikationsfiguren, die es aber kaum gibt, weil der "Technikkram" in vielen Strukturen weiterhin Domäne von (noch relativ jungen) Dudes ist, die aber in 10 J. auch als alt gelesen werden.
Als Folge dessen, und weil es so viel bequemer ist per #Signal in die Amazon-Cloud zu schreiben, als den rudimentären Umgang mit PGP/ #DeltaChat zu verinnerlichen, und so ein Gefühl für die Vorteile dezentraler & föderierter Strukturen zu entwickeln, passiert eben auch das nicht.
Schon von der Tatsache, dass es im #Fediverse (wie im Mail-Verkehr) keine zentrale Instanz gibt, überfordert die meisten, ist ihnen "zu kompliziert". 🤦♀️
Fazit: Technologie-Verfügbarkeit ist eben nur ein 1.Schritt, sie selber zu nutzen, zu unterhalten, und weiter zu entwickeln ist der steinige Weg sie zu etablieren bzw. alternativ dazu darauf zu warten, dass die Doofen™ sie nutzen.
Insofern: Mein Plädoyer für aktives #GNUtaler-Engagement JETZT ist nur ein #Denkangebot. Use-Cases und Workarounds gibt es en masse.

@ati1 @linmob Depends what the user wants from a personal device, how they use it and what their priorities are. If someone's priorities are a modern camera, running proprietary Android apps and their money is held hostage by banks requiring #Duopoly apps, they should check back later, perhaps when the Librem 5 "Fir" model is released.
On the other hand, if #FreeSoftware, #privacy, #modularity, #repairability, #ecofriendliness, #decentralisation, #digitalindependence, etc. are valued above other things, the Librem 5 and the higher-spec model, the #LibertyPhone, can absolutely work in 2025 and beyond.
I am daily driving a #Librem5 with #postmarketOS and everything important to me works: VoLTE calls and SMS (although I avoid them due to #SaltTyphoon), 4G data, Wi-Fi, camera with OK quality photos (see: #ShotOnLibrem5), GPS with #PureMaps, web browsing with #FirefoxESR, web apps (including banking) using #GNOMEWeb and #BraveBrowser, email using #Geary and #DeltaChat, audio calls on #SignalMessenger, #Matrix ( #ElementMessenger), #XMPP ( #DinoIM), #JitsiMeet, etc.
There are occasional bugs and quirks, and the device itself has limitations but nothing that I can't work around.
Not sure if I missed anything. Let me know if you have a specific use case that you absolutely require and I'll see if I can test...

@avoca @Ketakater I also got all of my family and a lot of my wider circle on it using these two strategies:
1. Getting a device that simply does not have #Whatsapp / proprietary messaging apps, i.e.: #Linuxmobile: #Flx1, #LibertyPhone, #Librem5, #Jolla2c, etc. People typically won't care enough about #privacy but they will understand if WA simply does not work on your phone.
2. Kids: They don't have phone numbers (or phones in many cases) but want to be included in family group chats. Once kids got in on it, #DeltaChat spread like wildfire among our extended family, relatives, inlaws and friends. Even a kid with #downsyndrome onboarded their grandpa in seconds while I had earlier struggled to get him on #Signal!
A great thing about Delta Chat is that, unlike #ElementMessenger and other fully-featured #Matrix clients, there's no search and discovery feature so kids do not stumble upon untrusted groups and strangers' profiles.
