Hallo Fediverse, ich habe da mal eine Frage zu XMPP und Gruppen. Ich habe eine Gruppe erstellt und es gibt dort das Problem, dass scheinbar der OMEMO Schlüssel nicht an alle Teilnehmer verteilt wird. Zwar schon an die Meisten User allerdings gibt es den einen oder anderen, der den Schlüssel für diese Gruppe nicht empfangen hat. Bei dem betroffenen User erscheint dann in der übermittelten Nachricht nur Folgendes:
Diese Nachricht wurde mit OMEMO verschlüsselt und konnte nicht entschlüsselt werden.

Gibt es da für mich als Admin der Gruppe irgendeine Einstellung oder sonst irgendwas, was ich machen kann?

Just a small life update.

After losing my good phone in the robbery, I currently have to rely on my old device again, and it’s struggling badly. The battery barely lasts anymore, so I need to reduce power usage and keep things as lightweight and minimal as possible. Because of that, I’m stepping away from some platforms and rethinking which communication networks I truly want to depend on in the future.

What I will continue using and keeping are open and decentralized networks like XMPP, Matrix, SimpleX, Nostr, and the Fediverse. Those spaces feel far more independent, resilient, and aligned with the kind of digital future I want to support.

Step by step I’m rebuilding my setup, simplifying things, and focusing more on privacy-friendly and decentralized technology again. Sometimes losing a device really changes the way you think about communication, ownership, and dependence on centralized platforms.

I still wonder why I was so mad at #xmpp? #matrix is much worse but I was not this mad at it. Different expectations? Maybe. More users stepped into shit with me? Maybe again. I don't get myself, anyway.

Here we go: My colleague uses #Monal only with his private account and notifications seem to work well with that. No data point for the other server, sorry.

I asked also in the local #XMPP community MUC and got two hints:

1. The s2s connection betweeen the users server and the Monal developers push server must work. Maybe it's a good idea to monitor that connection?

2. The user must permit Monal push on #iOS. Sounds dumb, but seems to be a common error 🤷

Got three(!) PRs merged today! 🥳

Next version of ejabberd will feature:

* new command `generate_reset_token` in case someone forgot their password
* web-admin interface for invite tokens, lists all existing invites, lets them browse, sort and filter, execute commands
* if landing page configured there’s now a start page that lets any user create invites using their account name and password (if allowed)

@celesteh @Steldamm @kkarhan I run my own #XMPP server and still had to migrate my family to #Signal for for daily use because the app ecosystem is only so-so for it, especially on iPhone/Apple products. Never could get my family to receive push-like notifications when they got new messages, no matter what I tried.

Nothing's perfect, but some things are more perfect than others. :)

@kai_schwartz Anoxinon kann ich als XMPP-Anbieter sehr empfehlen. Habe dort seit Jahren meinen Hauptaccount und damit bisher keine nennenswerten Probleme gehabt. Außerdem ist mir die Organisationsstruktur als Verein irgendwie sympathisch - es ist kein profitorientierter Großkonzern der meine Daten verkauft, aber auch kein privates Hobbyprojekt was vielleicht eingestellt wird wenn der einzige Admin ein Kind bekommt oder so :)

@codewizard @rimu @Jerry @prav Better than #WhatsApp because we have users privacy as priority unlike them. Their business model depends on collecting personal data. Signal is better than WhatsApp, but it still controlled by a single organization. Prav is part of #XMPP network so people who don't like Prav have choice of using other apps like #Quicksy and still talk to all #Prav users.

I am trying to set up #OpenPGP #encryption for #XMPP chats but don't have contacts who have it in use. I use #monocles but it should work with any XMPP app. If any others out there are interested in this, please let me know. 😁 #infosec #privacy
