Das erfüllt meiner Meinung nach in Deutschland Straftatbestände wie Falsche Verdächtigung und Verleumdung oder üble Nachrede.Oder wie seht ihr das?

For some reason Signal app still runs its background process even when android is offline.
There's an option to disable that battery-sucking behaviour, but it's currently a placebo option: it keeps on re-enabling itself every time android goes back online, thus training me to keep that phone offline even longer.

@truls46 I have been using #WhisperFish over 6 months now! I have been loving it :) I have registered it as a secondary device as you can't back up messages really. I have androis signal client on my #JollaPhone as a primary signal client, whicb backups everything. I have disabled all other notifications from android #Signal client but audio and video calls as WhisperFish doesn't currently support those. This way I can have audio and vide calls also

The internet at large isn't moderated the way we would like social spaces to be moderated but that doesn't mean that the internet at large is inherently unsafe to use
How did you arrive at mastodon over twitter or bluesky it wasn't because there was some overarching internet moderation that told you this is where you are allowed to be
To moderate a decentralised space you just moderate your corner of it. As soon as you create an apparatus to moderate the whole ecosystem then you have created a fascist tool that will disproportionately be leverageable by people with more compute and infrastructure ie the wealthy
This is exemplified by the fact that signal servers use AWS infra, and amazon is a trump loyalist company who can at an instants notice cut access to signal for everyone as soon as it becomes too inconvenient - internet blackouts are a thing during revolutions so signal blackout isnt beyond the pail and somewhat related but Apple removed the ICE sighting app when it became inconvenient to US government
If the practical limitation of this style of moderation is that you can only afford to moderate semi closed invite only groups then that is still valuable: this is how most activist signal groups work anyway - but even within decentralised systems like matrix or simplex you can still delegate moderation rights with chat permission hierarchies to make moderating larger groups feasible.

"Early one morning this June, #TreasureThoreson was drinking coffee on her couch in #Minneapolis when she heard a knock at the front door.
" 'I go and I see a woman standing there in office clothes, but with a Homeland Security vest over the top. And I see six more agents standing in my front yard,' Thoreson told NPR. "She said, 'We have a warrant for your arrest, for conspiracy.' "
"Thoreson, a special education teacher, was still in her pajamas. The agent let her change clothes and hug her partner goodbye before taking her into custody.
"The government charged Thoreson and 14 others with engaging in a conspiracy to impede federal agents — a conspiracy it says culminated in the use of blockades outside the Whipple Federal Building, which served as ICE's headquarters during the immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota this past winter.
"The government cited meetings and conversations on the encrypted messaging app #Signal as evidence. At the advice of her lawyer, Thoreson declined to comment on the specifics of the indictment.
An increasing trend
"The charges against Thoreson are part of an escalating trend. NPR reviewed court records from the last five years to examine how the federal government is wielding one specific charge: conspiracy to impede or injure an officer, which can carry a sentence of up to six years in federal prison.
"The statute, which dates back to the Civil War, has historically been used infrequently. But since President #Trump took office last year, the Justice Department has charged more than three dozen people in at least 10 cases. All of them involve people protesting federal immigration enforcement.
The government has also indicted nearly 50 people on #conspiracy charges in #Michigan, #Texas and #Minnesota using different legal statutes."

Ob es in absehbarer Zeit wirkliche Unabhängigkeit geben kann, weiß ich nicht. Alternative Angebote hier sehr essenziell wichtig.
Einen großen Teil gibt es diesbezüglich schon, z.B. Messenger wie #Signal und verschiedene für Matrix (#SchildiChat, #Element).
Ferner #Linux statt Windows, #OpenSource statt MS Office, Mail-Anbieter wie #posteo und #mailbox_org und #Proton. Anbieter für Cloudspeicher wie #Nextcloud und #Ionos.Ganz wichtig, denke ich, ist es auch, dass wir Nutzer bereit sein müssen, uns umzustellen und Neues zu lernen. Und vor allen Dingen nicht erwarten, dass uns alles auf dem Silbertablett serviert wird. Eigeninitiative und selbstständiges Erarbeiten sind für mich entscheidende Stichworte.
