I noticed that signal has finally added a feature to keep the app running in background.
Two years too late I'm afraid.
The majority of Chinese android users (which is the second largest after Korea) have already given up due to lack of contacts and constantly missing notifications.
The battery saving feature worked so well it almost looked like a coordinated state act.
